Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Mars Hill this afternoon in regional action. The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the 1
st inning and poured on the runs late in the game to take the contest, 16-6. With the win, the Lions move to 6-9 on the season.
Davis Roesler walked to start off the Lion's first at-bat of the game, advancing to 3
rd on an error. A groundout scored a run to get the Lions on the board, 1-0.
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Tyler Bradford singled to right field to start things off, and William Phipps followed that up with a single to right center to advance Bradford to 3
rd. A single by
Alex Calabro to right scored Bradford to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly scored a run to end the inning with the Lions leading 3-0.
In the bottom of the 3
rd, the Lions opened things up.
Chaz Encarnacion singled to shortstop to lead things off and stole 2
nd. Walks to Roesler and
Aidan Feather loaded the bases with no outs.
Reece Kingeter took full advantage of the opportunity smashing a homerun to left center to clear the bases, giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.
Mars Hill responded scoring a run on 2 hits in the top of the 4
th to make the score 7-1, Lions. The Lions answered quickly, with
Alex Espinoza starting off the bottom of the 4
th with a single to left, advancing to 2
nd on a wild pitch. A walk to
Haidyn McGill and a single from Encarnacion loaded the bases. Roesler walked to score a run, giving the Lions an 8-1 lead, and Feather hit a homerun to clear the bases, making it 12-1 Lions.
After a scoreless 5
th inning, Mars Hill scored 4 runs on 4 hits to cut the Lions lead to 12-5. The Lions responded, with a double by
Seth Ranta down the left field line. Ranta stole 3
rd and scored on a balk to push the Lions lead to 13-5.
In the top of the 7
th, Mars Hill scored a run on an error to make it 13-6, but the Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning. Nick McCoy was hit by a pitch to start off the at-bat, and Roesler reached on an error, scoring a run to make it 14-5, Lions. Feather and Ranta were both hit by a pitch to load the bases, and a double by Conor Golterman scored two runs to make the final score 16-6, Lions.
Chaz Encarnacion was 2-5 at the plate with 2 runs scored, while
Aidan Feather went 1-3 with 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Reece Kingeter was 1-3 at the plate with 4 RBIs and a run scored.
On the mound,
Logan Taylor got the start, throwing 4.0 innings and giving up a run on 5 hits. He struck out 5 batters and walked 2.
Jacob Bodkin relieved him and earned the win, throwing 1.0 inning and striking out a batter.
Matthew Delarber was next on the mound, tossing 1.0 inning and giving up 4 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, striking out a batter.
Miles Dodd closed the game out for the Lions, throwing an inning and giving up a run, striking out 2 batters.
Next up, the Lions will host Erskine College in a weekend series beginning on Friday at 3PM.
