Box Score 3 Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Erskine College this weekend in conference play. The Lions took an early lead in game one of the series, but the Flying Fleet rallied to tie the game in the 4
thinning and tack on three runs late to earn the win in game one, 9-6. The Flying Fleet would take game two, 6-3. The Lions responded well in game three, overcoming a 10-2 lead to earn the 16-12 win.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless first inning, the Lions got on the board in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Nick Madrigal started things off with a single to left. After
Tyler Bradford walked,
Davis Roesler singled to center to load the bases and
Alex Espinoza singled to left to score a run, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Haidyn McGill was hit by a pitch to score a run, and
Chaz Encarnacion hit into a fielder's choice, scoring a run to make it 3-0, Lions. Runners advanced, with Espinoza stealing home to make it 4-0, Lions and a double from
Dee Oliver pushed the Lion's lead to 5-0. A single by
Aidan Feather to right field scored Oliver to make it 6-0, Lions.
In the top of the 3
rd, the Flying Fleet scored 3 runs on 4 hits to cut the Lions lead to 6-3. The Lions got a hit in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't get a run across.
In the top of the 4
th, Erskine scored 3 runs on 5 hits to tie the game at 6-6. The Lions got a hit from McGill in the bottom half of the inning but left the runner on base.
After a scoreless 5
th and 6
th inning, Erskine added 3 runs to their lead on 3 hits to take a 9-6 lead.
The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 9
th, getting two runners on board, but couldn't get a run across making the final score, 9-6 Erskine.
At the plate,
Haidyn McGill went 2-3 with an RBI.
On the mound,
Hunter Pirkle got the start, throwing 6.0 innings. He gave up 6 runs on 10 hits and struck out 2 batters, walking 1.
Luke Hopper took the loss, throwing 3.0 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, striking out 2 batters and walking 1.
GAME TWO
After two scoreless innings, the Flying Fleet struck first in the top of the 3
rd scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. The Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Haidyn McGill singled to left center to start off the at-bat, but
Chaz Encarnacion reached on a fielder's choice and McGill was thrown out at 2
nd.
Dee Oliver kept things going with a single down the left field line and the baserunners stole to put runners on 2
nd and 3
rd for
Aidan Feather. Feather delivered, lacing a double to right field to score two runs, tying the game at 2-2.
In the top of the 6
th, Erskine took the lead scoring 4 runs on a hit and an error to make it 6-2.
The Lions cut the Flying Fleet's lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the 7
th.
Alex Espinoza doubled down the left field line to start off the at-bat, and a single from Encarnacion scored him to make it 6-3 which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Aidan Feather and
Tyler Bradford went 2-3, with Feather adding 2 RBIs.
On the mound,
Ethan Pooler got the start, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits. He struck out 5 batters and walked 2.
Miles Dodd relieved him to throw 1.1 inning. He gave up a run on 2 hits. He struck out a batter and walked one.
GAME THREE
Erskine jumped out to an early lead in game three scoring 4 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 1
st to take a 4-0 lead.
The Lions answered in the bottom of the 2
nd. After
Nick Madrigal was hit by a pitch, Conor Golterman singled to 3
rd base to advance Madrigal to 2
nd.
Alex Espinoza reached on an error that scored a run, making the score 4-1, Erskine. A groundout by
Haidyn McGill scored Golterman to make it 4-2, Flying Fleet after two.
Erskine pushed their lead to 7-2 in the top of the 3
rd, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits.
In the top of the 4
th, the Flying Fleet added 3 runs on 3 hits to their lead to make the score 10-2. The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning.
Parker Westbrook started off the inning with a single to left field. A walk to Golterman put runners on 1
st and 2
nd. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by McGill scored a run to cut the Erskine lead to 10-3.
In the bottom of the 5
th the Lions roared back.
Seth Ranta started things off with a single to right field and stole 2
nd. A single by Feather scored Ranta to make it 10-4, Erskine.
Reece Kingeter reached on a fielder's choice, with Feather getting thrown out at 2
nd, and he advanced on a wild pitch. Madrigal walked, and a single by Westbrook scored a run to cut the Erskine lead to 10-5. Golterman kept things going with a walk to load the bases and Espinoza reached on an error by the 3
rd baseman to score a run, making it 10-6 Erskine. A wild pitch advanced the runners, scoring Westbrook to make it 10-7, Erskine After Encarnacion was hit by a pitch, a single by Ranta scored Golterman to make it 10-8 Erskine. Feather walked to score a run and Kingeter followed that up by getting hit by a pitch to score another unearned run, tying the game at 10-10. Madrigal kept the inning alive with a single to left center to score two runs, giving the Lions the 12-10 lead.
The Lions kept things going in the bottom of the 6
th. Golterman smashed a homerun to put the Lions up 13-10, and Espinoza followed that up with a double to left. A single by McGill advanced Espinoza to 3
rd, and after McGill stole 2
nd, Encarnacion walked to load the bases. Ranta walked to score a run and Feather hit a sacrifice fly to score another, giving the Lions a 15-10 lead which would be the final score.
In the top of the 7th, the Flying Fleet scored a run on 2 hits to make it 15-11, Lions.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Lions responded well. Ranta singled to start things off, then Feather was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Oliver singled to load the bases and a single from Madrigal scored a run to make it 16-11, Lions.
The Flying Fleet scored a run on 3 hits in the top of the 9th to make the final score 16-12, Emmanuel.
At the plate, Conor Golterman went 2-2 with a homerun.
On the mound,
Brayden Pooler got the start, throwing .2 innings and giving up 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks.
Logan Taylor was next on the mound, tossing 1.1 inning and giving up 2 hits.
Blake Altschuler relieved him to throw an inning. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.
Jacob Bodkin came in next, throwing 1.0 inning and giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, striking out a batter. Zach Easton came in to throw an inning, walking 2 batters, then
Chase Lupton closed out the game throwing 1.1 inning and giving up a hit. He struck out a batter and walked one.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Anderson, SC to face the Anderson University Trojans in regional play on Tuesday at 4PM.
