Lions Down SWU on Senior Night 62-41!

Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted Southern Wesleyan tonight for Senior Night, honoring their sole senior, Lizzie Teasley. The Lions jumped ahead early, taking a 26-20 lead into the half. The Warriors closed the gap in the 3rd quarter, but the Lions finished the game strong, outscoring SWU 18-6 in the final quarter to earn the 62-41 victory.

The Lions opened up the scoring with an 8-0 run made up of key plays by Lizzie Teasley, Natalee Goff and Kate Jackson. Goff scored the final six points for the Lions to make it 14-7, Lions after the first. 

In the 2nd, the Warriors closed the gap to trail the Lions 15-11, but five quick points by Goff pushed the Lions ahead 20-12. The Warriors cut the Lions lead to 20-18 with 1:50 to play before half, but back-to-back threes by Goff and Roberts made it 26-18, Lions. At the half, the Lions led 26-20.

The third quarter saw the Lions jump ahead by double-digits, 31-20 on buckets from Goff and Hannah Harris. The Warriors cut the Lions lead to 35-29 with 3:18 to play in the 3rd but a three-pointer from Harris and free-throws by Goff put the Lions up 40-32 with 1:52 to play. After the third, the Lions led 44-35. 

In the fourth, the Lions offense was cooking, outscoring the Warriors 18-6. A driving layup from Julie Azeltine and three-pointers by Azeltine and Roberts put the Lions up 52-35 early in the quarter. Goff and Jackson both connected in the paint to put the Lions up by 20, 59-39 with 6:05 to play.  A jumper from Roberts and a free-throw by Kaleigh Calloway closed out the game with the Lions earning a 62-41 win.

Natalee Goff led the Lions with 26 points and 8 rebounds on the night. Naomi Roberts added 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, while Kate Jackson led the team with 11 rebounds. Hannah Harris had 7 assists on the night to lead the Lions.

Next up, the Lions will play King University in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament at Shorter University on Sunday.
