Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team welcomed the Anderson University Trojans to town this afternoon for a non-conference series. The Trojans took an early lead in game one, fending off threats from the Lions to earn the 10-0 victory. In game two, the Trojans took an early 4-0 lead, but the Lions rallied late falling in a close one, 6-4.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-4 on the early season.
GAME ONE
The Trojans took an early lead in the first inning scoring 5 runs on 4 hits and an error to take a 5-0 lead.
Anderson added 2 runs to their lead in the top of the 2
nd on 2 hits and an error to make the score 7-0.
Anderson made it 8-0 in the top of the 3
rd on a hit and an error. The Lions loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning with no outs, but the Trojans closed out the inning strong to keep the score 8-0.
In the top of the 4
th, the Trojans scored 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors to make the score 10-0.
The Lions closed out the game strong defensively, not allowing a run in the final two innings of play, but the Trojans came away with a 10-0 win.
At the plate,
Carson Stowe and
Gillian Price each picked up a hit.
Autumn Matherly got the nod for the Lions in the circle. She threw 3.1 innings and gave up 10 runs on 9 hits. She walked 6 batters.
Addison Hendrix relieved her to throw 1.2 innings. She gave up a hit and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO
The Trojans kept the momentum in game two getting off to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on 2 hits and an error.
After a scoreless 2
nd inning, the Trojans added to their lead in the top of the 3
rd. scoring 3 runs on 2 hits and an error to make it 4-0, Anderson.
The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the 4
th.
Ciara Passmore reached 1
st on an error by the 3
rdbasemen and stole 2
nd. Passmore advanced to 3
rd on a groundout by
Shelby Rinefierd and scored on a groundout by
Ashley Fountain to cut the Trojans lead to 4-1.
In the top of the 5
th, the Trojans tacked on 2 runs to their lead on 4 hits and 2 errors.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lions rallied to score 3 runs.
Arlie Gooden singled to start the inning and advanced to 2
nd on a groundout. Rinefierd reached on an error by the pitcher, advancing Gooden to third.
Ashley Fountain cleared the bases with a homerun to make the final score 6-4.

In the circle,
Quinn Overby got the start, going 5.0 innings and giving up 6 runs on 10 hits. She walked 5 batters and struck out one.
Reagan Beagle relieved her to throw 2.0 innings. She gave up a hit and walked 2 batters.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader at the University of West Alabama with first pitch at 1PM.
