Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Erskine College this afternoon in conference play. The Flying Fleet took the early lead in game one. The Lions responded well, but Erskine scored five runs in the 7
th to take the game, 7-2. In game two, the Lions got on the board first with a run in the 4
th inning, but Erskine responded with 2 runs late to take the game, 2-1.
GAME ONE
The Flying Fleet got on the board first in game one, scoring a run on two hits in the top of the 2
nd to take the 1-0 lead.
The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 3
rd, getting two runners on base but no runs scored.
The Flying Fleet added a run on 2 errors in the top of the 4
th to make the score 2-0. The Lions responded in the bottom of the 4
th, tying the game on a homerun by
Ashley Fountain to make it 2-1, Erskine.
In the bottom of the 5
th, the Lions tied the game up at 2-2.
Jacie McCall and
Arlie Gooden singled to start off the inning with runners on 1
st and 2
nd with no outs. A groundout advanced runners to 2
nd and 3
rd , and a sacrifice fly scored McCall to tie the game at 2-2.
Erskine retook the lead in the top of the 7
th, scoring 5 runs on 5 hits and an error to make it 7-2, Erskine. The Lions got a runner on base in the bottom of the 7
th but left her stranded to make 7-2 the final score.
At the plate, four Lions picked up a hit with
Ashley Fountain going yard to score a run.
In the circle,
Autumn Matherly got the start going 6.0 innings and giving up 5 runs on 8 hits. She struck out 2 batters and walked 2 batters.
Quinn Overby relieved her to face 6 batters. She gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and walked a batter.
GAME TWO
The Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the 1
st, but a groundout ended the inning.
The Lions got on the board first in game two, scoring a run in the bottom of the 4
th inning.
Autumn Matherly doubled to start off the inning and Lennox Roberts pinch ran for her. A single from
Jacie McCall scored Roberts to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 5
th, the Lions threatened again, getting two runners on base but the inning ended with a pop up.
The Flying Fleet answered in the top of the 6
th, scoring 2 runs on a hit and 3 errors to take the 2-1 lead. The Lions got two runners on in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't get a run across.
Erskine took game two, 2-1.
At the plate,
Grace Ausborn went 2-3.
In the circle,
Reagan Beagle pitched 7.0 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and walked 3 batters.
Next, the Lions will travel to Young Harris, GA where they'll face the Young Harris Mountain Lions in conference play on March 13 at 1:00 & 3:30PM.
