Franklin Springs, GA- The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Lander University this afternoon in regional play. Game one was a pitchers' duel, with neither team scoring until the 4
th inning. The Bearcats got on the board first, and held onto the lead, taking game one 1-0. The Bearcats held onto the momentum in game two, earning an 11-1 win.
GAME ONE
Both teams threatened in the 1
st inning, with the Lions picking up singles from
Arlie Gooden and
Ciara Passmore to get two baserunners, but a groundout ended the inning.
In the 3
rd, the Lions threatened again with
Grace Ausborn collecting a hit and Gooden getting on base due to an error, but the game remained scoreless.
In the top of the 4
th, the Bearcats got on the board scoring a run on 3 hits to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions had baserunners in each of the final three innings, but the Bearcats took game one, 1-0.
At the plate, five Lions picked up a hit.
In the circle,
Autumn Matherly got the start going 7.0 innings. She gave up a run on 8 hits and struck out a batter, walking another.
GAME TWO
The Bearcats got on the board early in game 2, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and an error in the top of the 1
st.
Ciara Passmore picked up a single in the bottom of the 1
st, advancing to 2
nd on a wild pitch but a strikeout ended the inning.
After a scoreless 2
nd, Lander added 3 runs on 5 hits in the top of the 3
rd to take a 5-0 lead.
Grace Ausborn doubled in the bottom half of the inning, stealing 3
rd base to put a runner in scoring position, but a pop up ended the at-bat.
In the top of the 4
th, Lander tacked on 2 runs, collecting 3 hits to take a 7-0 lead. The Lions answered with a solo homerun by
Carson Stowe to cut the Lander lead to 7-1.
The Bearcats added a run on a hit in the top of the 5
th to make the score 8-1.
In the top of the 6
th, Lander sored 3 runs on a hit to push their lead to 11-1. In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions got a rally started.
Arlie Gooden singled to start things off.
Ciara Passmore followed that up with a single to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd. After a strikeout, Stowe kept things going with a single to load the bases, but a fielder's choice and groundout ended the inning and the game, with Lander taking the game 11-1.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore and
Carson Stowe went 2-3, with Stowe picking up an RBI.
In the circle,
Addison Hendrix got the start, going 2.1 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 7 hits.
Quinn Overby relieved her to throw 3.1 innings. She gave up 6 runs on 5 hits, walking 4 batters.
Reagan Beagle closed out the game, facing a batter.
