Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Barton College this afternoon in conference action. The Bulldogs jumped out ahead early to take game one, 13-5. The Lions bounced back in game two, taking the early lead and scoring 6 runs in the final two innings to earn the 7-4 win.
GAME ONE
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead scoring 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors in the top of the 1
st to take a 2-0 lead. The Lions answered well in the bottom of the 1
st , with
Grace Ausborn and
Arlie Gooden leading things off with a walk to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd.
Ciara Passmore reached on a fielder's choice, with Ausborn getting thrown out at 3
rd, and
Ashley Fountain reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. A groundout by
Carson Stowe scored a run, cutting the Bulldogs lead to 2-1.
The Bulldogs added 4 runs to their lead on 4 hits in the top of the 2
nd to take a 6-1 lead. The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 2
nd, with
Jacie McCall Shelby Rinefierd, and Ausborn picking up singles, and
Arlie Gooden walked to load the bases, but a strike out ended the inning with the Bulldogs leading 6-1.
The score stayed that way until the top of the 4
th when the Bulldogs added a run on a hit to take a 7-1 lead.
In the top of the 5
th, Barton tacked on a run on a hit to take an 8-1 lead. The Lions bats got to work in the bottom half of the inning. After a walk to Gooden,
Ciara Passmore homered to cut the Bulldogs lead to 8-3. Fountain walked, and
Emma Knight came in to pinch run.
Carson Stowe followed that up with a single to move Knight to 3
rd base. Lennox Roberts came in to run for Stowe, and she advanced to 2
nd on a ground out. Knight stole home on a groundout to make it 8-4, Barton and a single by
Shelby Rinefierd scored Roberts to make it 8-5, Barton.
After a scoreless 6
th, the Bulldogs scored 5 runs on 6 hits and an error in the top of the 7
th to push their lead to 13-5 which would be the final.
At the plate,
Carson Stowe went 2-4 and
Ciara Passmore went yard to pick up 2 RBIs.
In the circle,
Autumn Matherly got the start, going 4.0 innings and giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits. She struck out a batter and walked one.
Addison Hendrix relieved her to throw an inning. She gave up a run on a hit and walked 3 batters.
Quinn Overby closed out the game, pitching 2.0 innings and giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and walking a batter.
GAME TWO
The Lions bounced back in game two, getting on the board early in the 1
st inning.
Arlie Gooden and
Carson Stowe both walked to start off the at-bat and a single from
Jacie McCall scored Gooden to give the Lions the 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless 2
nd, the Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the 3
rd, scoring a run on 2 hits to tie the game at 1-1.
Barton took the lead in the top of the 4
th, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits to take a 3-1 lead.
The Lions responded well in the bottom of the 5
th.
Ciara Passmore, Stowe, and McCall each singled to start off the at-bat. Passmore was thrown out at 2
nd, but
Shelby Rinefierd reached on an error to load the bases for Dezerea Hillery. Hillery took full advantage of the opportunity, smashing a homerun to clear the bases, giving the Lions a 5-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lions stayed hot at the plate. Passmore doubled to start off the inning and Stowe doubled to score Passmore, giving the Lions the 6-3 lead. After a walk to Rinefierd and Hillery, a sacrifice fly from
Eliana Cooper scored Rinefierd to make it 7-3, Lions.
Barton scored a run on a hit in the top of the 7
th to make the final score, 7-4.
At the plate,
Jacie McCall went 3-4 with
Grace Ausborn and
Carson Stowe both going 2-3. Dezerea Hillery picked up 4 RBIs in the game on a grand slam.
In the circle,
Reagan Beagle threw a complete game, pitching 7.0 innings. She gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and struck out 2 batters, walking 2.
Next up, the Lions will host the UNC Pembroke Braves tomorrow in a doubleheader. First pitch will be at 1PM.
