Lions Battle, Fall to Mount Olive 15-9

Mount Olive, NC – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Mount Olive, NC to face the University of Mount Olive in conference play. The two teams battled in the first half, with the Trojans heading into halftime up, 6-4. The Trojans pulled ahead in the 3rd period, but the Lions battled back in the 4th, falling 15-9. 

Everett Muratori opened up the scoring, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead with 11:13 to play in the 1st. The Trojans tied things up with 3:32 to play in the 1st to end the period knotted up, 1-1.

The Trojans opened up the 2nd period on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 6-1 lead. The Lions answered the bell, scoring the final three goals of the period. Braden Weeks found the net with 4:30 to play in the period, then Ryland Laturell scored with 1:53 to play before halftime to cut the Trojans lead to 6-3. With 32 seconds to go before the break, Muratori scored his second goal of the day to make it 6-4, Trojans heading into the half.

In the 3rd, the Trojans opened up the scoring, to take a 7-4 lead. Ryley Dowswell responded, finding the net with 12:03 to play in the 3rd, assisted by Laturell to make it 7-5, Mount Olive. The Trojans closed out the 3rd on a 4-0 run to take a 11-5 lead heading into the 4th period.

Laturell scored back-to-back goals, one assisted by Muratori, to open up the 4th, cutting the Trojans lead to 11-7. Dowswell made it 11-8 with 8:50 to play, assisted by Muratori but the Trojans answered to make it 12-8. Devin Gardner scored with 5:49 to play to put the Lions with three goals, 12-9 but the Trojans closed the game on a 3-0 run to make the final score 15-9.

Ryland Laturell led the Lions with 3 goals on the afternoon with Ryley Dowswell and Everett Muratori adding 2 apiece. Muratori led the Lions in assists with 2. In goal, Nick Pilon ended the day with 17 saves.

Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris, GA to face Young Harris College on Tuesday at 7PM.
