Lions Drop Conference Game to Chowan 16-10

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team hosted Chowan University this afternoon for a Senior Day matchup. Prior to the game, the Lions honored seniors, Ryland Laturell, AJ Quaid, William Thomas, and Grady Magruder, thanking them for they've brought to the program. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, taking a 5-4 advantage into the 2nd period. The Hawks answered, outscoring the Lions 7-4 in the 2nd to take a 11-9 lead into the halftime break. The Hawks closed out the game strong, earning the 16-10 victory.

Chowan scored the first to goals to take an early 2-0 lead. The Lions answered well with a 3-0 run to take the lead. Devin Gardner picked up where he left off against Young Harris, getting the Lions on the board with 13:10 to play in the 1st (assisted by Ryland Laturell) Laturell was next to score, tying the game up at 2-2 with 12:30 to play in the period. Erik Lichtner gave the Lions the 3-2 lead with 4:48 to play in the 1st. After the Hawks tied the game up at 3-3, Cole Stachniak scored with 2:23 to play in the first to knot the game up at 4-4. Ryley Dowswell scored just seconds later to put the Lions up 5-4 to close out the period. 

The Hawks scored the first two goals in the 2nd period to take a 6-5 lead. Tristen Cuda found the net with 10:59 to play in the 2nd to tie the game at 6-6, but the Hawks responded with a 2-0 scoring run to take an 8-6 lead. The Lions answered with a 3-0 run of their own, with Dowswell (assisted by Lichtner), Everett Muratori (assisted by Dowswell), and Laturell finding the net to give the Lions the 9-8 lead. The Hawks closed the period on a 3-0 run to take the 11-9 lead heading into halftime. 

The Hawks carried their momentum into the 3rd, scoring the only two goals of the period to push their lead to 13-9. 

In the 4th, the Hawks opened up the scoring on a 2-0 run to make it 15-9. The Lions answered with a goal from Stachniak with 8:07 to play, but the Hawks responded with a late goal to make the final score 16-10, Chowan.

Ryley Dowswell, Cole Stachniak, and Ryland Laturell led the Lions with 2 goals each. Erik Lichtner had 2 assists on the afternoon. In goal, Grady Magruder had 10 saves. 

Next, the Lions will host Belmont Abbey on April 1 at 5PM.
