Lions Fall to Belmont Abbey 25-7

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team hosted Belmont Abbey College tonight in conference action. The Crusaders took an early lead, up 14-1 at the halftime break. The Crusaders kept control of the game in the 2nd half to earn a 25-7 victory. 

Belmont Abbey opened the scoring in the 1st period with a 3-0 run to take the lead. With 7:22 to play in the 1st, Ryland Laturell got the Lions on the board to make the score, 3-1 Crusaders. Belmont Abbey scored the next three goals to take a 6-1 lead heading into the 2nd period.

The Crusaders continued a scoring run in the 2nd period, outscoring the Lions 8-0 in the period to take a 14-1 lead at the half.
The Crusaders kept the momentum in the 3rd period, scoring the first two goals to take a 16-1 lead, but the Lions answered with a goal by Braden Weeks with 8:36 to play in the period to make it 16-2, Crusaders. The Crusaders closed out the period on a 4-0 run to take a 20-2 lead heading into the 4th period.

The Lions got back in action in the fourth period, with Laturell finding the net to cut the Crusaders lead to 20-3. Weeks scored his second goal of the night, assisted by Laturell to make it 20-4, Crusaders with 12:13 to play. The Crusaders responded, pushing their lead to 21-4, but Laturell found the net with 6:52 to go, assisted by Cole Stachniak to make it 21-5, Crusaders. The Crusaders added a goal to their lead 10 seconds later to make the score, 22-5. Devin Gardner scored with 6:02 to play, assisted by Everett Muratori to cut the Belmont Abbey lead to 22-6. Gabe Melendez made it 22-7, assisted by Weeks with 5:09 to play. The Crusaders closed out the 4th period with a 3-0 scoring run to make the final score 25-7. 

Ryland Laturell led the Lions with 3 goals on the night, with Braden Weeks adding 2. 

Four Lions ended the night with an assist.

Nick Pilon led the Lions in goal with 19 saves, with Grady Magruder adding 4. 

Next up, the Lions will travel to Banner Elk, NC to face Lees McRae College on April 11 at 7PM.
