Lions Fall to Lees McRae 27-9

Box Score Banner Elk, NC- The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Banner Elk, NC to face Lees McRae College in conference action. The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead, taking a 16-5 lead into halftime. After outscoring the Lions, 7-3 in the 3rd period, the Bobcats closed the game strong to earn the win, 27-9.

The Bobcats opened up the scoring with a 6-0 run in the first period. Cole Stachniak got the Lions on the board with a goal at the 7:59 mark, assisted by Ryland Laturell to make the score 6-1, Lees McRae. The Bobcats scored the next five goals to make the score 11-1, but Stachniak scored his second of the night with 3:12 to play in the first to make it 11-2. Ryland Laturell made it 11-3 to close out the first. 

In the 2nd, the Bobcats opened up the scoring with a goal at the 10:22 mark to push their lead to 12-3. The Lions responded with a score by Braden Weeks to cut the lead to 12-4. Lees McRae answered with a 3-0 run to go up 15-4, but the Lions responded with a goal by Weeks with 3:55 to play in the 2nd to make the score, 15-5. The Bobcats tacked on a goal late in the 2nd to make it 16-5 heading into halftime.

The Bobcats added a goal early in the 3rd to push ahead, 17-5 but the Lions quickly answered with a goal by Grant Anderson with 10:10 to play in the 3rd. The Bobcats answered with a 3-0 run to pull ahead, 20-6 but Ryley Dowswell scored with  0:54 to play in the 3rd. Six seconds later, Tristen Cuda found the net to make the score 20-8. The Bobcats closed out the quarter scoring three goals in the final 30 seconds to make the score 23-7 heading into the final quarter.

The Bobcats opened the 4th on a 4-0 scoring run to go up 27-7, but Ryland Laturell scored the final goal of the game with 2:02 to play to make the final score, 27-9 Lees McRae.

Braden Weeks, Ryland Laturell, and Cole Stachniak led the Lions with two goals each. Laturell picked up the team's only assist in the game. Nick Pilon led the way with 14 saves in goal, with Grady Magruder adding 4. 

Next up, the Lions will host Shorter University on Friday at 7PM. It's a WHITE OUT so wear white and support your Lions!
