Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball Lions hosted Converse University today in conference action. The Lions jumped out to a hot start, taking game one 3-0, but the Valkyries rallied to score 3 late runs in game two to earn the 4-3 win.
GAME ONE
After two scoreless innings, the Lions got on the board in the bottom of the 3
rd.
Ciara Passmore tripled to start off the inning and
Ashley Fountain scored her with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0, Lions.
The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the 4
th.
Arlie Gooden started things off with a single, advancing to 3
rd on a groundout.
Gillian Price singled and stole 2
nd and Passmore kept things going with a single to score Gooden, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless 5
th, the Lions tacked on a run in the bottom of the 6
th. Gooden and Price both singled and Passmore doubled to score a run, making the score 3-0 Lions which was the final score.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore went 3-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
In the circle,
Autumn Matherly pitched a complete game. She gave up 5 hits and struck out 3 batters, walking 2.
GAME TWO
After a scoreless first, the Valkyries got on the board in the top of the 2
nd scoring a run on a hit to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning.
Carson Stowe started things off with a single and
Shelby Rinefierd singled to advance Stowe to 2
nd.
Eliana Cooper followed that up with a single to load the bases and a single by
Arlie Gooden scored a run to tie the game at 1-1.
After a scoreless 3
rd, the Lions took the lead in the bottom of the 4
th. After a walk to
Jacie McCall, Gooden and Gilian Price both singled to load the bases. A walk to
Ciara Passmore scored a run to put the Lions up 2-1. Stowe kept things going, reaching on a fielding error to score a run making it 3-1, Lions.
After a scoreless 5
th and 6
th, Converse scored 3 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 7
th to take a 4-3 lead. The Lions threatened in the bottom half of the inning, leaving two runners on base but Converse came away with a 4-3 win.
At the plate,
Arlie Gooden went 2-3 with a run scored.
In the circle,
Reagan Beagle threw 6.1 innings. She gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and walked 5 batters, striking out 3.
Quinn Overby relieved her to face 4 batters. She gave up 2 runs on a hit, walking 2.
