AUGUSTA, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Augusta, GA this afternoon for a midweek matchup against the Augusta University Jaguars. The Jaguars took an early 5-0 lead, but the Lions rallied to cut the Augusta lead to a run with 4 runs in the 7
th. The jaguars added two runs to their lead in the bottom of the 8
th to earn the 7-4 win.
The Lions threatened out of the gate, with
Aidan Feather and
Matt Layton picking up singles, but a groundout ended the at-bat with no runs scoring.
Griffin Morris earned the start for the Lions, sitting the Jaguars down in order with a groundout and two pop-ups.
The Jaguars got on the board in the bottom of the 2
nd, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and an error to take a 2-0 lead.
Two runners got on base for the Lions in the top of the 3
rd, with
Davis Roesler lacing a single to right field, but a pop up ended the at bat. Morris gave up an early double to score a run, giving the Jaguars a 3-0 lead.
Blake Altschuler relieved him, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits to give Augusta the 5-0 lead.
The Lions collected two singles in the top of the 4
th, but a ground out ended the at-bat. Altschuler settled down in the 4
th, sitting down the Jaguars in order.
Roesler singled for the Lions in the 5
th, advancing to 3
rd on a wild pitch but a strikeout ended the at-bat with the Lions trailing 5-0. After Altschuler got into some trouble in the bottom of the 5
th, giving up 2 hits,
Hunter Maddox relieved him to earn the final out of the inning on a pop-up.
After a scoreless 6
th, the Lions rallied in the top of the 7
th. After a walk to Roesler, Layton singled to right field to score a run, making the score 5-1, Augusta.
Tyler Bradford followed that up with a homerun to right center to score two runs, cutting the Jaguars lead to 5-3. After a walk to
Alex Calabro,
Chaz Encarnacion doubled to left field to score him, making the score 5-4, Augusta.
In the bottom of the 8
th, the Jaguars picked up 2 runs on 2 hits and an error to take the 7-4 lead which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Jaden Madrid,
Davis Roesler, and
Matt Layton each collected 2 hits.
On the mound,
Griffin Morris got the start, throwing 2.0 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 3 hits. He walked a batter and struck one out.
Blake Altschuler relieved him to throw 2.2 innings. He gave up a run on 3 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 3.
Hunter Maddox came in next, throwing 1.1 inning. He walked 2 batters.
Lucas Meehan relieved him to pitch 1.1 inning. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. He walked a batter and struck one out.
Zackary Easton closed the game on the mound, facing 2 batters and recording a strikeout.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Ferrum, VA to face Ferrum College in a three-game series. First pitch is set for Friday at 4PM.
