FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - The softball Lions fall short to a non-confrerence team, Brenau University from Gainesville, Gerogia yesterday afternoon.
In the first game of the afternoon, Erin Harden started on the mound for Emmanuel only allowing the Golden Tigers to get three runs. Hannah Perry, a freshman, came in relief for Harden in the second inning and completing the game with 6 strike outs. The GoldenTigers had a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the third innning. The Lions got on the board when Samantha Ely got a walk from the Tigers pitcher, Madison Gussett. Next up to the plate was Bethany Campbell, who hit a double, scoring Ely and bringing in the first run for Emmanuel. With Campbell on second base, Jorden Williams did her job by hitting a double herself, bringing in Campbell for the second run to put on the board. At the end of the 4th inning, the score was 5-2. Neither team was able to score again. The Golden Tigers took the win 5-2.
In game two, Martie Rogers started on the mound for the Lions and kept the Tigers from scoring in the first inning. Emmanuel was able to get two runners on base but was not able to execute those runs home. Going into the second inning, things got a little shaky for the Lions and the Tigers scored 4 runs. Leah Ritchhart, a senior, came in relief for Rogers and was able to get the Lions out of the innning and complete the game. Leading into the bottom of the forth inning, Jorden Williams hit a single and was then scored by a double hit by a senior, Linsey Hearn. The score going into the top of the fifth was now 5-1. The Golden Tigers were able to score one more run in the top of the 7th. In the last inning of the game, the Lady Lions were led off by, Kalen Callaway hitting a base hit then moved to third off of a hit to right field by Brittany Abbott. Callaway was able to score by a sacrifice fly hit by, senior, Hayden Bartlett. Unfortunately, that is all the Lions were able to score and the final score was Brenau 6 and Emmanuel 2.
The Lady Lions play two more games this week at home. Saturday 21stagainst Point University at 1:00 and3:00pm. And Sunday the 22nd, against Lees-McRae (conference game) at 1:00and 3:00pm as well. Go Lions!
