Lions Softball Sweep Lees-McRae

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Emmanuel College Sports Information Department

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - The softball team came out ready to play yesterday at home against conference competition, Lees-McRae.

In the first game of the double header, the Lady Lions turned it up fast in the first innning scoring the first 4 batters immediately. There was no better way to start the game than the way the Lions left fielder, Kalen Callaway did. With a 2-1 count, Callaway ripped a bomb over the center field fence bringing herself and the first run to touch home plate. Next up to bat was Brittany Abbott who hit a base hit to the left side of the field. With a runner on and no outs, Samantha Ely follows Abbott's lead and hits another base hit. The Lion's clean up hitter, Bethany Campbell, doesn't get to stay up to the plate long when she gets hit by a pitch, but the Lions weren't complaining with bases loaded and no outs. Hitting in the 5th spot was the pitcher for Emmanuel, Martie Rogers, who was able to hit a hard shot to left to score two, Abbott and Ely. Jorden Williams followed and was able to hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Campbell to give the Lions a 4-0 lead.

The Bobcats did score in the top of the 4th inning when two batters in the middle of their line up hit 2 base hits and then their pitcher, Megan Paradise, hit a hard ground ball to shortstop to give her an RBI for bringing one runner home.

The Lions pulled together one more run in the bottom of the 4th. Jorden Williams got on base with a single and then sophmore, Halle Cheek, hit a double to score Williams, making the score 5-1.

Lees-McRae had one more chance in the top of the 7th inning to score and their right fielder, Alix Green, hit a shot over the fence for a homerun. The Bobcats were not able to score again, leaving the final score 5-2 Lions.

Game 2 was a pitching dual. Emmanuel's pitcher, Erin Harden had an almost perfect game only allowing Lees-McRae to score 1 run. Harden had 9 strike outs, at least one every inning and only allowed the Bobcats to have 4 hits.

The score remained 0-0 on both sides of the scoreboard until the bottom of the 5th inning. Emmanuel comes alive when Jorden Williams hits a homerun to lead off the inning. Following her, a senior, Linsey Hearn draws a walk and gets placed on first base. Next up to bat was Halle Cheek. She hit a base hit to put her and Hearn in scoring position. With two runners on, another Emmanuel senior, Holly Springer, did her job by hitting a double and scoring both Hearn and Cheek. With two outs, Samantha Ely hit a double to bring in Springer for the last run, making the score 4-0.

The Bobcats only run was scored in the top of the 7th inning when the number four hitter, Amanda Decker hit a homerun off of Harden. Though the Lions were able to get the next three outs they needed to help out Erin Harden finish a great game. The final score was Emmanule 4 and Lees-McRae 1.
