Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team hosted the Young Harris Bobcats on Saturday evening. The Lions came out on top 65-62, moving their record to 1-1.
Despite 15 points from Junior Breanna Locke in the first half, the Lions trailed slightly behind the Mountain Lions, who were up 35-33 heading into the half.
The third quarter continued with Young Harris holding onto their small lead, eventually increasing it to 5 as the third quarter ended with the Lions trailing 52-47.
In the fourth quarter, Three-pointers from Sophomore Lexi Sengkhammee and Junior Morgan Simmons helped Emmanuel rally to a 57-54 lead. Young Harris managed to tie the game at 59, but a jumper from Simmons and a lay-up by Locke gave the Lions a 4 point advantage that the Mountain Lions couldn't recover from. After Young Harris made a 3 pointer with 12 seconds left in the game, Locke sealed the game for Emmanuel by making two free throws when she was intentionally fouled. The final score was 65-62, Lions.
Breanna Locke was the leading scorer of the game with a total of 25 points and 8 rebounds. Morgan Simmons followed with 17.
Emmanuel finished the game with a 44.4% field goal percentage. The Lions also put on an impressive performance from beyond the arc, going 10-21 and 47.6% from the 3 point line.
Next up, women's basketball will take on Young Harris again on Thursday, November 14 on the road.
