Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team defeated conference opponent Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon, 80-74. This win brings the Lions record to 16-6 overall, 11-4 conference.
Despite being out-rebounded 40-28, the Lions shot a consistent 55.6% from the floor to help them top the Trojans. A strong all around team offense saw the Lions with 22 points from the bench.
After trailing nearly the entire first quarter, a late run from several Lions thrusted them to a one point lead to end the period, 19-18. The Lions would hold that lead for the length of the second quarter before the Trojans closed in to tie it up at 32-32.
The Lions had no trouble connecting their shots in the third quarter with a staggering 70%, but the aggressive Trojan offense helped Mount Olive outscore Emmanuel and build a five-point lead, 53-48. The Lions immediately responded with their strongest quarter of the night. Sophomore Hanna Grogan and Senior Lochlain Corliss each put up double-digits to combine for 22 of the Lions 32 fourth quarter points. Emanuel rolled past the Trojans with five minutes remaining and never looked back, taking the game 80-74.
Grogan led the Lions with 19 points. Sophomore Breanna Locke totaled 8 rebounds.
Next up, the Lions will take on Erskine College at home on Tuesday, February 12th at 5:30pm.
