Women's Basketball Tops Chowan, 77-55

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel college women's basketball team continued conference play on Saturday when they took on Chowan University. The Lions defeated the Hawks 77-55, moving their overall record to 9-3 and remaining undefeated in Conference Carolinas with their sixth straight victory. 
 
The first quarter started out competitively with the Hawks staying within one possession of the Lions. However, Emmanuel outscored Chowan by 9 points in the second quarter, ending the first half with a 12 point lead, 38-26. 
 
Emmanuel continued the trend in the second half and Chowan was unable to mount a comeback attempt. The Lions outscored the Hawks in all four quarters, finishing the game with a 22 point victory, 77-55. 
 
Junior Breanna Locke led the way for the Lions, scoring 14 points in addition to 12 rebounds for a double-double. Junior Morgan Simmons followed with 13 points, while senior Ajah Taylor had 10 points and 7 rebounds. 
 
Chowan won the turnover battle by forcing 16 from Emmanuel and giving up 14 of their own. However, the Lions beat the Hawks in nearly every other stat category. The Lions made 38.3% of field goals, 42.9 percent of 3-pointers, and 80.6 percent of free throws. The Hawks made only 29% of field goals, 16% of 3-pointers, and 61.1% of free throws. 
 
Next up, women's basketball will attempt to maintain their conference win streak against Erskine College on Wednesday, January 8th.
