Women's Basketball Falls to Limestone, 63-58

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Women's basketball took on the Limestone College Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Saints topped the Lions, 63-58, moving Emmanuel's record to 17-8 overall and 14-5 in conference. 
 
The Saints pulled away early, going 4/8 from beyond the arc in the first quarter en route to taking an eight point lead after ten minutes of play, 20-12. 
 
Limestone increased their lead to double-digits in the second quarter as the Lions struggled to score, only converting 1/14 from the field. At halftime the Lions trailed by 13 points, 31-18. 
 
The Lions starting heating up in the third quarter, scoring 10 unanswered points that brought them back into the game. However, the Saints were able to hold onto a three point lead going into the fourth quarter, 47-44. 
 
The fourth quarter was well contested, but the Lions were never able to gain an edge. The Saints had possession and led by two, 60-58, with 30 seconds remaining. The Lions had to result to intentionally fouling and the Saints converted both free throws. Emmanuel was unable to score on the next possession, while the Saints made an additional free throw after another intentional foul from the Lions. With 9 seconds remaining, Emmanuel was unable to get a shot off, resulting in a five point victory for the Saints, 63-58. 
 
The Lions were led by junior Breanna Locke, who had her eleventh double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Ajah Taylor put up her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Lions shot 33.9% from the field, 20% from three-point territory, and 78.9% from the free throw line. 
 
Next up, women's basketball will take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Wednesday, February 19.
