Lions Top Virginia-Wise and Walsh to Wrap Up Bearcat Challenge

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Emmanuel College softball team wrapped up the Bearcat Challenge with back to back wins over Virginia-Wise and Walsh University on Sunday afternoon.

GAME #1 
EC defeated Virginia-Wise by run-rule after leading 10-1 by the end of the fifth inning. The Lady Lions picked up 10 runs, 10 hits, 7 RBI's, and drew 2 walks. Ryanne White picked up hits on all three at-bats with a single, double, and a home-run. Ally Harris and Noelle Petty each doubled, while Kaylan Pruitt, Lexie Tallent, and Isabelle Petty combined for 5 singles.
 
Madison Abell faced 17 batters in the first four innings for the Lions, recording 4 strikeouts and allowing 0 runs, 0 hits, and 3 walks.
 
In the first inning, Tallent, White, and Noelle Petty all picked up RBI's while the Lions jumped to a quick 5-0 lead. EC proceeded to add 2 more runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings before White homered for the Lions 10th run in the bottom of the 4th. The Cavaliers earned 1 run in the 5th inning before a final strikeout from Dani Fairey closed out the game 10-1.
 
GAME #2
EC had 6 runs, 9 hits, 6 RBI's, and drew 4 walks in their 6-5 win over Walsh University. Lexie Tallent had 1 double and 2 singles, Isabelle Petty picked up 2 singles, and Kaylan Pruitt, Ryanne White, Noelle Petty, and Mackensie Hogan each had 1 single.
 
Sloan Hammons pitched the first two innings for the Lions and recorded 2 strikeouts while allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, and 4 walks. Dani Fairey stepped in for the final 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and 0 runs while striking out 2 batters.
 
The Lions had runs in all but two innings. After leading 4-1, the Cavaliers overtook the EC lead by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, 5-4. Ryanne White would run in to tie the game in the 5th off of a single from Noelle Petty. In the top of the 6th, Tallent doubled before advancing to 3rd on a pop up from Abbey Sims. A sac fly from White would bring Tallent home and give EC the 6-5 lead. The Lions would close out the final two innings without allowing any more runs.
 
Next up, the Lions hope to take on Tusculum University on Tuesday, March 3rd if whether permits. Tomorrows double-header may be rescheduled due to a high chance of rain.
