Softball Opens Season with 2-0 Start at Georgia College Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, GA - The Emmanuel softball team began their 2022 campaign on Saturday at the Georgia College Invitational. The Lions went 2-0 on day one, defeating the Florida Tech Panthers and the Georgia College Bobcats. 
 
The Lions claimed a 10-3 victory in the first game, despite a big push by Florida Tech in the fifth inning.  Victoria Szrom and Jolie Miracle each had RBIs in the frame.
 
Emmanuel secured the victory thanks to six runs in the first inning. The Lions put the pressure on early, led by singles from Chloe Nadler, Mackenzie Hogan, Lexi Jordan, and Jewels Ayers along with a double from Glory Thompson. The first scored run came when Nadler singled. 
Dani Fairey was the winning pitcher for Emmanuel, allowing just five hits and three runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Kaitlyn Pickens threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Samantha Guider led things off in the circle for Florida Technical College. Guider lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing eight hits and six runs while walking one.  Alex Hendrian and Allison Platon entered the game from the bullpen, throwing four innings and two and a third innings respectively.

The Lions totaled 14 hits in the game.  Nadler, Thompson, Hogan, and Ellee Varner all had multiple hits for Emmanuel.  Thompson and Nadler each managed three hits to lead the Lions.  Emmanuel was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Nadler made the most plays with five.
 
 
In the Georgia College game, Emmanuel took the victory to the tune of 5-1. Emmanuel got on the board in the first inning.  Gabby Buffington drove in two when she singled. Kaitlyn Pickens led things off on the rubber for the Lions. The right hander went three innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four.

Golden Thrower started the game for Georgia College (possibly the best name for a pitcher in the history of sports). The Bobcats surrendered four runs on six hits over two-thirds of an inning, walking one.  Macy Banks threw six and a third innings in relief.

The Lions totaled nine hits.  Brighton Harder and Buffington each collected multiple hits.  Harder went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the way. Emmanuel was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Lily Shelton made the most plays with ten.
 
 
Next up, softball will continue at the Georgia College Invitational with a game against Carson Newman (3:00pm) before facing the host Bobcats a final time (5:00pm).
