Lions Go 1-1 on Day 2 of Georgia College Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – The Emmanuel softball team continued the Georgia College Invitational on Sunday with a doubleheader. The Lions went 1-1 on the day, falling to the Carson Newman Eagles before bouncing back with a win over the Georgia College Bobcats. This moves Emmanuel's record to 3-1 overall. 
 
In game one, the Lions got on the board in the first inning. Mackensie Hogan drove in two when she homered.
In the top of the third inning, Carson Newman tied things up at three. Carmen Holt singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Carson Newman pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Natalie Corbin singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and Emily Harris singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Carson Newman scored three runs in the third inning. The big inning for Carson Newman came thanks to a single by Holt and a double by Harris.
Sara King was in the pitcher's circle for Carson Newman. The ace surrendered three runs on eight hits over seven innings, walking one.

Madison Edwards was on the rubber for the Lions. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs while striking out two and walking zero. Kaitlyn Pickens threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Emmanuel hit one home run on the day, coming when Hogan put one out in the first inning. Hogan went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits.

Carson Newman racked up 15 hits in the game. Corbin, Harris, Kennedy Warder, and Leah Sohm all managed multiple hits for the Eagles. Carson Newman was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Sohm had the most chances in the field with five.
 
 
The Lions took the lead late and defeated Georgia College 5-4 in their second game on Sunday evening. The game was tied at four with the Lions batting in the top of the eighth when Lily Shelton hit a pop fly to right field. This led to Brighton Harder scoring after tagging up.
 
Emmanuel had originally opened up scoring in the second inning. The Lions scored one run when Lexi Jordan singled.
 
Georgia College evened things up at four in the bottom of the sixth inning when Katelyn Hobbs hit a solo homer.
 
After the Lions scored one run in the top of the third, Georgia College answered with one of their own. The Lions scored when Jordan singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Georgia College then answered when an error scored one run for Georgia College.

Dani Fairey led things off in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The southpaw surrendered four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out one and walking zero.

Montana Ledbetter was in the pitcher's circle for Georgia College. The bulldog lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three runs. Golden Thrower threw five and a third innings out of the bullpen.

The Lions racked up nine hits. Jordan, Gabby Buffington, and Lily Shelton all collected multiple hits for Emmanuel. Shelton, Buffington, and Jordan each managed two hits to lead Lions.
 
Georgia College racked up eight hits on the day. Brooke Lougher and Eliza Kuhne all managed multiple hits for The Bobcats.
 
Next up, softball will face Lee University on Saturday, February 12 at 1:00 PM.
