Lions Fall to Flagler College 17-4

Box Score  GREENWOOD, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team competed in day one of a tournament at Lander University today. After defeating Limestone 8-0 in game one, the Lions faced Flagler College in game two. The Saints bats were hot from the start and Flagler took the game, 17-4. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-9 on the season. 
 
 Flagler got things started in the first inning with three runs on five hits, leaving two on base to take a 3-0 lead. 
 
The Flagler Lions added four runs onto their lead in the bottom of the second inning on four hits to take a 7-0 lead. 
 
The Emmanuel Lions answered in the top of the third. Kelley Feigen started with a double to right center. Abigail Curry singled and advanced to third on an error, scoring Feigen. Ellee Varner followed that up with a single to center to score Curry, cutting Flagler's lead to 7-2. Varner advanced to second on a ground out. Next, Alyssa Adams hit a single and Varner advanced to third, attempting to score on the play but getting thrown out at home. Jaryn Gibson singled, scoring Shelby Aiken (pinch runner), but ending the inning attempting to advance to second. Lions trailed 7-3.In the bottom of the 3rd, the Flagler Lions added four runs on three hits and an error leaving one on base to take a 10-3 lead. 
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Flagler Lions added 6 runs on 4 hits and an error to take a 16-3 lead. 
 
In the top of the 5th, the Emmanuel got something going. After Curry walked, Hannah Wright singled through the left side to advance Curry to second. Gibson doubled to center field, scoring Curry and advancing Wright to third. Lions trailed 17-4, which would be the final. 
 
At the plate. Jaryn Gibson and Gabby Buffington went 2-3. 
 
On the mound, Isabel Harrison got the start and pitched 2.1 innings, facing 20 batters. She gave up 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and struck out one. Haley Mullins came in next and pitched 1 inning. She gave up 5 runs on 4 hits, Kaitlyn Pickens ended the game for the Lions, pitching 0.2 innings and gave up one run on one hit, striking out one. 
 
The Lions are back in action on Saturday against Wingate and Emory & Henry.
