Box Score Aiken, SC – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Aiken, SC to take on the USC Aiken Pacers. The Lions got off to a quick start but would need 13 innings to take home a 7-5 win to improve their record to 17-12.
In the first inning, the Lions got on the board first.
Brock Wollin started things off with a single to center.
Brody Campbell got on base with a walk and
Hayden Beall singled to second to score Wollin, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
In the second, the Lions added to their lead.
Dobbs Bowden started things off with a single to first, later stealing second.
Bailey Stroud reached on an error by the 3
rd baseman and advanced to second on a throw, scoring Bowden to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Beall started things off with a double in the 3
rd inning.
Ryan Muniz followed that up with a single to left field, advancing to 2
nd on the throw and scoring Beall to make it 3-0, Lions. In the bottom half of the inning, the Pacers got on the board with one run on two hits to make it 3-1, Lions.
In the fifth inning, the Pacers scored 3 runs on 3 hits to take a 4-3 lead.
USC Aiken added to their lead in the bottom of the 8
th, scoring one run to make it 5-3.
In the top of the 9
th, the Lions responded to send the game to extra innings. Stroud reached on an error by the shortstop, advancing to second on the throw.
Cooper Tomkinson walked, and the runners advanced a base on a ground-out. Wollin singled to left field, advancing to second on the throw, scoring
Connor Poitevint (pinch runner) and Stroud, to tie things up at 5-5.
There was nothing going for either team in extra innings until the 13
th inning when the Lions took the lead. Poitevint and
Thomas Collins each got walked to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd for Wollin. Wollin took advantage of the situation, hitting a double to right center to score Collins and Poitevint to give the Lions a 7-5 lead and the win.
At the plate,
Brock Wollin went 4-7 and
Hayden Beall went 3-5.
On the mound,
Colby Fields got the start, pitching two innings. He gave up two hits, striking out three batters and walking one.
Will Sherman came in next, pitching 2 innings and giving up one run on four hits, striking out one batter and walking two.
Lucas Meehan came in next to face one batter. Next up,
Noah Olson came in and worked the 5
th inning, He gave up three runs on four hits, walking one batter.
Zakk Gibbons came in the pitch the 6
th inning.
Eli Roach came in next and pitched the 7
th inning.
Bubba Luke came in in the bottom of the 8
thand pitched until three singles loaded the bases in the 9
th.
Hunter Maddox struck out two batters to get out of the inning and pitched the 10
th and 11
th.
Ashton Sapp pitched the final two innings for the Lions, earning the win.
