Box Score 2 Rome, Ga – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Rome, GA today to take on the Shorter University Hawks in a doubleheader. The Lions got off to a fast start in game one, scoring 5 runs in the 2
nd inning to help them take the first game, 6-0. The Lions momentum continued into game two, taking down the Hawks 10-1.
GAME ONE –
After a scoreless first inning, the Lions got into full swing in the 2
nd.
Isabel Harrison started off the inning with a single to short, advancing to 2
nd on the throw.
Hannah Wright followed that up with a single through the left side to score Harrison and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Ellee Varner singled to short to advance Wright to 2
nd, then
Lexi Jordan singled to right to score
Giovanna Sardono (pinch runner), making it 2-0 Lions.
Gabby Buffington would load the bases with a walk, and
Jaryn Gibson would follow with a walk to score Varner and give the Lions a 3-0 lead. Next up,
Alyssa Adams doubled to left to score Buffington and Jordan and give the Lions a 5-0 advantage.
The Lions would threaten to add to their lead but didn't bring a run across again until the 6
th inning.
Kinsley Goolsby got things started with a single to right field. Wright followed that up with a double to score
Mandy Rhinehart (pinch runner) and give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
At the plate,
Lexi Jordan and
Hannah Wright were each 3-4, with
Kinsley Goolsby going 2-3.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards was dealing! In 7 innings pitched, Edwards gave up just one hit and struck out 8 batters.
With the win, the Lions improve to 13-15 on the season.
GAME TWO –
The Lions kept their momentum going into game two of the day. Emmanuel got on the board first in the 2
ndinning.
Kelley Feigen started things off with a single to center field, advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Abigail Curry followed that up with a single to score Feigen and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
After a few scoreless innings, the Lions added to their lead in the top of the 4
th inning.
Alyssa Adams hit a double to left center to start the inning.
Mandy Rhinehart (pinch runner) advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a single by
Hannah Wright to give Emmanuel a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the 5
th, the Lions doubled their lead.
Jaryn Gibson got on base with a walk. Adams brought
Giovanna Sardono (pinch runner) home with a 2-run homerun to right field to make it 4-0, Lions. In the bottom of the 5
th the Hawks scored one run on one hit to make it 4-1.
The Lions opened up the game in the 6
th inning.
Lexi Jordan reached on an error by the 1
st baseman and advanced to second.
Gabby Buffington got on base with a walk. Gibson followed that up with a single to left to load the bases. Adams delivered again for the Lions, with a 2 RBI double to score Jordan and Buffington and make it 6-1, Lions.
Isabel Harrison followed that up with a single, advancing to second. On the hit, Adams scored on an error by the 2
nd baseman and Gibson scored to make it 8-1. Harrison advanced to 3
rd on a ground out but was brought home on a triple by
Kelley Feigen to make it 9-1. Curry continued the momentum for the Lions with a walk, then
Ellee Varner followed that up by reaching on an RBI fielder's choice, scoring Feigen, with Curry getting out at 2
nd to make it 10-1, Lions which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Kelley Feigen and
Alyssa Adams were both 3-4, with Adams collecting 4 RBIs.
On the mound,
Macy Kelley earned the win, pitching 6 innings and giving up one run on 8 hits. She struck out 2 batters on the afternoon.
With the win, the Lions improve to 14-15 on the season. Up next, the Lions will travel to UNC Pembroke to take on the Braves on Friday at 1PM.
