Lions Fall to UNC Pembroke in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pembroke, NC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Pembroke, NC today to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got on the board first in game one, but a 2-run 6th inning helped the Braves come out on top in game one, 6-3. In game two, the two teams went back and forth until the Braves took a 4-3 win on a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 7th.  With the losses, the Lions fall to 14-17 on the season. 
 
GAME ONE – 
 
The Lions got things going early in the 1st inning. Ellee Varner started things off with a single, and Lexi Jordan got on base with a single to right. Jaryn Gibson singled up the middle, advancing to second on the throw, with Varner scoring to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Alyssa Adams flied out to centerfield to score Jordan, making it 2-0 Lions.
 
The Lions added to their lead in the top of the 4th. Isabel Harrison got things started with a single to center, stealing second. Varner got her second hit of the day with a single to third, with Harrison advancing to third on the throw. Lexi Jordan hit an RBI ground-out to first to score Harrison and make the score 3-0, Emmanuel. The Braves answered back, tying things up in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs on four hits and an error to make it 3-3. 
 
UNCP would take their first lead of the day in the bottom of the 5th, scoring one run on one hit and two errors to go up 4-3. 
 
In the bottom half of the 6th, the Braves would tack on two more runs on two hits to make the final score 6-4. 
 
At the plate, Ellee Varner went 2-3 with a run. 
 
On the mound, Maddie Edwards got the start, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up 6 runs on 11 hits, striking out five and walking one batter. Haley Mullins closed out the game for the Lions, pitching 0.2 innings and striking out one batter. 
 
GAME TWO – 
 
In game two, the Lions got the ball rolling in the 2nd inning. Kelley Feigen got on base with a single up the middle. Aggie Bennett followed that up with a single to advance Feigen to second. Ellee Varner singled up the middle to score Feigen and make it 1-0, Lions. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. 
 
The Braves tied things up in the bottom of the 3rd scoring one run on four hits to make it 1-1. 
 
In the top of the 4th the Lions took the lead back. Isabel Harrison got on base with a walk, stealing second. Aggie Bennett singled up the middle, advancing to second on the throw and scoring Harrison to make it 2-1. Lexi Jordan singled up the middle to score Bennet and give the Lions a 3-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Braves tied things up scoring two runs on three hits and an error to make it 3-3. 
 
The score remained tied until the bottom of the 7th when a walk-off home-run gave the Braves a 4-3 lead and the game. 
 
Aggie Bennett and Ellee Varner each went 2-3 at the plate. 
 
Macy Kelley got the start on the mound for the Lions, going 6.0 innings. She gave up 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out one batter and walking another.
