Florence, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Florence, SC today to take on Francis Marion University in conference action. The Patriots used a 4-run 6
th inning to take game one of the series, 5-0. The Patriots followed it up with a 6-1 win in game two.
With the losses, the Lions drop to 14-19 on the season.
GAME ONE –
Game one was a pitcher's duel for the first five innings. The Patriots were hitless until the bottom of the 5
thwhen they scored one run on two hits to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Patriots added four runs to their lead on two hits and an error to take the game, 5-0.
At the plate, the Lions outhit the Patriots 5-4, but couldn't get a run across. Five Lions recorded a hit in game one.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards threw 5.1 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits. She struck out four batters and walked two.
Haley Mullins came in to close out the game, pitching the final batter.
GAME TWO-
The Patriots continued their momentum from game one into the second game. Francis Marion got on the board in the 1
st inning, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits and an error to go up 3-0.
The Patriots added to their lead in the third, scoring one run on one hit to make it 4-0.
The Lions answered back in the 5
th.
Gabby Buffington got things started with a single up the middle.
Isabel Harrison grounded out to advance Buffington to 2
nd.
Kelley Feigen kept things going with a single to right field to score
Giovanna Sardono (pinch runner) and get the Lions on the board, 4-1. In the bottom half of the inning, the Patriots responded, scoring two runs on two hits to go up, 6-1.
The Lions got a few runs back in the 6
th inning. Ciarra Passmore got things going with a double down the left field line.
Lexi Jordan followed that up with a single to right center to score Passmore and cut the Patriots lead to 6-2. In the bottom of the 6
th, the Patriots scored three runs on four hits to take a 9-2 lead.
In the top of the 7
th, the Lions responded. Buffington reached on a fielding error.
Hannah Wright started things off with a single to advance Buffington to second.
Kelley Feigen reached on a fielder's error and
Isabel Harrison (pinch runner) advanced to second with Buffington getting thrown out at third.
Abby Rocco reached on a fielding error to score Harrison and cut the Patriots lead to 9-3. Passmore reached on a fielder's choice to score Feigen and make it 9-4, Patriots. A groundout would close out the inning, making the final score 9-4.
Lexi Jordan led the Lions with two hits on the night,
On the mound,
Macy Kelley pitched 4.2 innings, giving up 6 runs on 10 hits. She struck out two batters and walked two.
Isabel Harrison came in to pitch an inning, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. She struck out one batter.
Haley Mullins closed out the game for the Lions, pitching ,1 innings and walking one batter.
Next up the Lions will travel to Central, SC to face Southern Wesleyan on Thursday at 2PM and 4PM.
