Lions Split Series with Young Harris

Young Harris, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Young Harris, GA today to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions in conference play. The Lions came out strong in game one, earning a 12-4 win. Game two was a close one, with the Mountain Lions coming out on top, 6-5. With the series, the Lions improve to 26-21 overall, 13-9 in conference. 
 
GAME ONE – 
 
The Lions started off strong in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Ellee Varner started things off with a double to center. Lexi Jordan singled to right to score Varner, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. Alyssa Adams kept it going with a single to score Jordan to make it 2-0, Lions.  
 
In the top of the 2nd, the Lions added to their lead. Hannah Wright singled to shortstop to get things started. Varner singled to shortstop and Jordan singled to right to score Wright to make it 3-0, Lions. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Mountain Lions got on the board scoring a run on one hit and an error to make it 3-1, Lions.  
 
In the top of the 4th, the Lions opened the game up. Wright singled to left to start things off. Aggie Bennett doubled to left center to score Wright to make it 4-1, Lions. Varner reached on a throwing error to score Bennett and make it 5-1, Lions. Adams reached on a fielding error to score Varner, to give the Lions a 6-1 lead. 
 
The Lions kept things going in the top of the 5th. Bennett singled to right field, advancing to third. Varner singled to third to score Bennett to make it 7-1, Lions. Jordan singled to right and Adams took advantage, with a three-run homerun to left to give the Lions a 10-1 lead. Young Harris answered back, scoring three runs on three hits and an error in the bottom half of the inning to make it 10-4. 
 
In the top of the 6th, the Lions grabbed the momentum back. Isabel Harrison doubled to center and Gabby Buffington singled to left. Harrison scored on a groundout to make it 11-4, Lions and Buffington scored on a single by Bennett to make the final score 12-4, Lions. 
 
At the plate, Ellee Varner was 4-5 with 2 RBI and Aggie Bennett was 3-4 with 2 RBIs.
 
Maddie Edwards got the start on the mound for the Lions.  She threw 6 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. She struck out four batters and walked four. 
 
GAME TWO 
 
In game two of the series, the Lions got off to another fast start. Varner singled to left and Adams singled to center to score her to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. 
 
The score stayed that way until the top of the 5th. The Lions added to their lead with a home-run by Adams to make it 2-0, Lions. Young Harris got on the board In the bottom of the 5th, scoring three runs on three hits and an error to take a 3-2 lead. 
 
The Lions responded in the top of the 7th. Varner singled to third base to start the inning. After Jaryn Gibson walked, Isbael Harrison doubled down the left field line to score Varner and tie things up at 3-3. Gabby Buffington kept things going with a double to score two runs and give the Lions a 5-3 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Mountain Lions answered back, scoring three runs on two hits and three errors to win the game via walk-off, 6-5. 
 
At the plate, Varner, Adams, and Buffington all recorded 2 hits. 
 
On the mound, Macy Kelley got the start going 6.2 innings. She gave up 6 runs on 10 hits and struck out 3 batters. 
 
Next up, the Lions will host Lander on Tuesday for a doubleheader with games at 3 & 5PM.
