Box Score Anderson, SC – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Anderson, SC to take on the Anderson University Trojans in regional play. The Lions got off to a strong start at the plate and
Colby Fields pitched a gem to earn the Lions a 6-1 win. With the win, the Lions move to 27-16 on the season.
Thomas Collins got things started for the Lions, reaching on a dropped pop fly, and
Brody Campbell singled through the right side to score Collins, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead early.
The Trojans answered back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on one hit and an error to tie things at 1-1.
In the top of the third, the Lions took the lead back.
Bailey Stroud started things off with a single through the right side, advancing to third on a wild pitch. Collins reached on a walk and stole second, then
Brock Wollin grounded out to third to score Stroud to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the 4
th, the Lions kept things going.
Nick Dietsch reached on a throwing error, and
Hayden Beall followed that up with a walk. After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners,
Dobbs Bowden flied out to center to score Dietsch, making the score 3-1, Lions.
In the top of the 5
th, the Lions kept things going. Cruz walked to start the inning. Collins singled up the middle to advance Cruz to 2
nd. Collins was later caught stealing 2
nd, but Cruz reached home on the play to give the Lions a 4-1 lead.
There was nothing going for either team until the top of the 7
th when the Lions got back on the board.
Jesus Cruz started things off with a double to left center, advancing to third on a ground out. Cruz later scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the 9
th, Cruz reached via walk to start the inning. Collins reached on a dropped pop up by the 3
rdbaseman, and Cruz advanced to 3
rd on the error. Cruz stole home to give the Lions a 6-1 lead which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Brody Campbell was 2-4 and
Jesus Cruz scored 3 of the Lions 6 runs.
On the mound,
Colby Fields got the start going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 9 batters, walking 5.
Lucas Meehan came in next, pitching 0.2 innings and striking out 2 batters, giving up one hit.
Hunter Maddox closed out the game, throwing 2 innings and giving up 1 hit, striking out a batter.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris to take on the Mountain Lions on Friday. First pitch will be at 6PM.
