Box Score 2 Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted the Augusta University Jaguars today in regional play. The Jaguars got off to a strong start, taking game one 5-1, but the Lions roared back to earn a 4-1 victory in game two to split the series. After the series, the Lions sit at 4-11.
GAME ONE –
The Jaguars got on the board first with 2 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 4
th to take a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the 5
th, Augusta doubled their lead on two hits to make it 4-0.
The Jaguars added a run on 2 hits and an error in the top of the 6
th to go up 5-0, but the Lions responded well. In the bottom of the 6
th,
Jaryn Gibson got things started with a single to left field.
Reagan Garrett kept things going with a single to center to advance Gibson to 2
nd.
Gabby Buffington followed that up with a single to center field to score Gibson to make it 5-1, Jaguars which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson went 2-3 with a run scored.
On the mound,
Cassidy Jenkins got the start going 5.0 innings. She gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 2 batters while walking 2.
Reagan Garrett relieved her giving up a run on 4 hits in 2.0 innings of work.
GAME TWO –
The Lions got on the board first in game 2 with a solo home run by
Jaryn Gibson to make it 1-0, Lions.
After a scoreless 2
nd inning, the Lions got back to work in the bottom of the 3
rd.
Ellee Varner got things started with a single to shortstop, advancing to 2
nd on a wild pitch. Gibson kept it going with a single to right field to put runners on the corners. Gibson stole 2
nd base to put both runners in scoring position and
Gabby Buffington took full advantage with a 2-run double to make it 3-0, Lions.
In the top of the 3
rd the Jaguars got on the board with a run on 2 hits to make it 3-1, Lions.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the 5
th, when the Lions added onto their lead. Varner led things off with a single to 3
rd and stole 2
nd. Varner advanced to 3
rd on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
The Jaguars threatened in the top of the 7
th with 2 hits, but the Lions held on to win, 4-1.
Four Lions went 2-3 at the plate, with
Jaryn Gibson and
Gabby Buffington adding 2 RBI's.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the start. She threw 7.0 innings and gave up a run on 7 hits. She struck out 3 batters and walked 2.
Next up, the Lions will host Columbus State University on Wednesday, March 5 in a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 3PM with game two following at 5:30PM.
