Box Score ANDERSON, SC – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Anderson, SC tonight to take on the Anderson University Trojans in regional play. The Lions got on the board first, exploding for 7 runs in the 6
th inning to expand their lead and eventually come away with a 18-8 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 9-15 on the season.
The Lions got on the board in the first inning with a solo homerun by
Brock Wollin to make it 1-0, Lions. The Trojans quickly responded with 2 runs on 3 hits to take a 2-1 lead.
Drew Knight started out the 2
nd inning with a 2-out single and
Dobbs Bowden walked to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd.
Ryan Muniz kept the inning going with a double to left center to score Knight and Bowden, giving the Lions a 3-2 lead. The Trojans answered back with 2 runs on 2 hits to take a 4-3 lead.
After a scoreless 3
rd inning, the Lions got back to work in the 4
th. Knight was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Muniz walked to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd and
Jesus Cruz kept things going with a single through the left side to score Knight and tie things at 4-4. The runners stole a base, and a walk to Wollin loaded the bases. In an attempt to steal 3
rd,
Jesus Cruz was thrown out but Muniz scored to give the Lions a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the 5
th,
Landon Mokris started things out with a walk.
Hayden Beall laced a double to right field to advance Mokris to 3
rd , and he scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Lions a 6-4 lead. The Trojans answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 3 runs on 2 hits to take a 7-6 lead.
The Lions bats got hot in the top of the 6
th. Bowden started things off with a double to right field. Muniz singled to put runners on the corners and Cruz followed that up with a single to load the bases. Mokris kept it going with a double to center field to clear the bases, giving the Lions a 9-7 lead. Mokris advanced to 3
rd on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Beall to make it 10-7, Lions.
Zachary Bergstrom followed that up with a triple to center field to score Beall, giving the Lions an 11-7 advantage.
Cameron Hancock and
Dobbs Bowden walked to load the bases, and a walk to Muniz scored Bergstrom to make it 12-7, Lions. Cruz kept things going with a walk to score
Dee Oliver to make it 13-7.
After a scoreless 7
th inning, the Lions got back to work in the 8
th.
Austin Bourrie walked to start the inning and stole second. Bowden walked and both runners stole a base to put runners on 2
nd and 3
rd. Bowden advanced to 3
rd on a wild pitch and Bourrie scored to make it 14-7, Lions. Cruz flied out to score Bowden to make it 15-7. The Trojans got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a homerun to make it 15-8.
In the top of the 9
th, Mokris singled to start things off.
Nick Madrigal doubled to left field to advance
Andrew Ferguson (pinch runner) to 3
rd.
Dee Oliver doubled to center to score Ferguson, making it 16-8 Lions. Bowden walked and Muniz doubled to left field to score Madrigal and Oliver to give the Lions an 18-8 lead which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Ryan Muniz led the way going 3-4 with 5 RBI's.
On the mound,
Noah Olson got the start going 1.1 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks, striking out one batter.
Jamin Smith relieved him to pitch 1.2 innings. He gave up 1 hit and struck out 2 batters. Joshua Priest was next in the circle, going 1.2 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 1 hit and struck out a batter, walking 2.
Zakk Gibbons relieved him to throw to two batters, giving up a hit.
Bubba Luke was next on the mound, going an inning and striking out a batter.
Kody Collins came in next, throwing 2.0 innings and giving up a run on a hit, striking out 3.
JJ Neal closed out the game for the Lions, throwing an inning and striking out a batter.
