Box Score ROME, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Rome, GA to take on the Shorter University Hawks in conference action tonight. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, taking an 11-6 advantage into the half. The Lions controlled the pace of the game in the 2
nd half behind
Paige Murphy's career high 9 goals to come away with a 21-11 win. With the victory, the Lions move to 5-5 overall, 1-2 in conference play.
Paige Murphy got the scoring started for the Lions with a goal at 12:44 in the first quarter, assisted by
Demi Czynski to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered quickly to tie the game at 1-1, but the Lions roared back with a goal by
Kristie Fisher with 8:32 to play in the quarter to make it 2-1, Lions. Czynski found the net with 5:32 on the clock to make it 3-1, Lions but the Hawks responded to get within one, 3-2. Murphy grabbed her 2
nd goal of the game with 4:26 on the clock to make it 4-2, Emmanuel but the Hawks scored the final two goals of the quarter to tie the game heading into the 2
nd quarter, 4-4.
The Hawks took the lead early in the 2
nd quarter, 5-4 but the Lions answered with a 4-0 scoring run. Murphy netted her 3
rd goal of the half to tie the game at 5-5, with 10:48 to go in the 2
nd.
Mikaela Austin was next to score, grabbing her first goal of the game to give the Lions a 6-5 lead. Murphy scored goal #4 of the night with 7:29 to play in the half to make it 7-5, Lions and Czynski followed it up with a goal to make it 8-6. Shorter scored to cut the lead to 8-6, but the Lions continued a 3-0 scoring run to close out the half. Murphy scored with 2:21 to play in the quarter to make it 9-5, then
Meghan Jennings scored two in the final two minutes of the half to give the Lions an 11-6 lead at the break.
Jennings picked up where she left off in the 3
rd quarter, starting the scoring for the Lions with a goal at the 11:16 mark in the 3
rd quarter, assisted by Murphy to make it 12-6, Lions. Murphy followed that up with a goal to give the Lions a 13-6 lead. The Hawks scored to cut the Lions lead to 13-7, but the Lions weren't done, with Murphy scoring her 7
th with 2:14 to play in the quarter to make it 14-7, Lions. Czynski tacked on another score for the Lions to make it 15-7, but the Hawks got a goal back to end the quarter trailing the Lions, 15-8.
Czynski opened up the scoring for the Lions in the 4
th with a goal, assisted by Murphy to make it 16-8. Murphy made it 17-8 with a goal at 13:53 and Austin followed that up with a score a minute later, assisted by Fisher to put the Lions up 18-8. The Hawks scored the next three to bring the score to 18-11. Fisher found the net with 3:43 to play, assisted by Jennings to make it 19-11, Lions. Murphy scored her 8
th of the night with 3:07 left to play, assisted by Czynski to make it 20-11, and Austin scored the final goal of the game, with the assist going to Fisher, to make the final 21-11.
Paige Murphy led the Lions, tying a career high 9 goals.
Demi Czynski contributed 4 on the night, also leading the Lions in assists with 3.
Emily Dawson had 9 saves in goal for the Lions.
