Lions Fall to Anderson in OT 16-15

Box Score Anderson, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Anderson, SC to take on the Anderson University Trojans tonight in regional play. The match-up was as advertised with both teams making key plays. The Lions led 9-6 at the half, but the Trojans exploded for 6 goals in the 3rd quarter to take the lead. The Lions answered back to tie things up again and the two teams ended regulation knotted at 15-15. The Trojans earned a 16-15 victory in overtime. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-2 on the season. 

The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Lions answered back with a 4-0 scoring run of their own. Paige Murphy started things off for the Lions with a goal at the 9:29 mark to make it 3-1, Trojans. Meghan Jennings found the net next with 8:57 to play in the quarter, assisted by Demi Czynski to cut the Trojan's lead to 3-2. A goal by Kristie Fisher with 8:42 to play in the first tied the game up at 3-3. Murphy scored her second of the night with 5:32 to play in the quarter to give the Lions their first lead of the night at 4-3, but Anderson responded to tie things up to end the quarter knotted at 4 all. 

In the second quarter, the Lions got back on the board first with a goal by Jennings at the 7:21 mark to make it 5-4, Lions. Murphy scored her third of the night with 6:06 to play in the half to give Emmanuel a 6-4 advantage. The Trojans scored to cut the Lions lead to one, 6-5 but the Lions responded with back-to-back goals. Fisher scored with 4:44 to go to make it 7-5 and Murphy scored her fourth at the 4:15 mark to make it 8-5, Lions. Anderson scored to cut the lead to 8-6, but Murphy answered with 43 seconds to play in the half to make it 9-6. 

After the break, Fisher quickly made it 10-6 with 13:46 to go in the quarter, assisted by Mikaela Austin. The Trojans answered to cut the lead to 10-7, but a goal by Fisher at the 7:06 mark, assisted by Jennings made it 11-7, Lions. Anderson would go on a 4-0 run to tie things up at 11-11, but Murphy would end their run with 1:57 to play in the 3rd to make it 12-11, Lions. The Trojans tied things up at 12 and scored again with seconds to play in the quarter to take a 13-12 lead into the 4th quarter.

The Lions tied things up quickly in the 4th quarter with a goal by Murphy to make it 13-13. The Trojans netted two more goals to go up 15-13, but the Lions responded with a goal by Taylor Schubert to make it 15-14, Trojans. With 2:26 to play, Paige Murphy grabbed her 8th goal of the night to tie things up at 15-15.

In overtime, the Trojans took a 16-15 lead with 3:02 to play to earn the victory. 

Paige Murphy led the way for the Lions with 8 goals. Kristie Fisher contributed 4 goals and Meghan Jennings added 2. Jennings, Fisher, Demi Czynski and Mikaela Austin each had an assist in the game. Emily Dawson ended the night with 9 saves in goal. 

The Lions will be back in action on Saturday at 12PM as they host Barton College in conference action at Stephens Field.
