Box Score Wilson, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Wilson, NC to play the Barton Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship. The game was competitive from the start, with the teams trading goals and the lead. A lighting delay put a stop to the action for several hours, with the Lions up 11-9 at the start of the 4
th quarter, but the Lions came out strong after the break to earn a 15-10 victory.
Barton got the scoring started in the 1
st quarter with a goal to go up 1-0. The Lions responded with a goal by
Paige Murphy, assisted by
Taylor Schubert to tie the game at 1-1. The Bulldogs answered to make it 2-1, but
Demi Czynski found the net with 11:38 to play in the quarter, assisted by
Meghan Jennings to make it 2-2. The Bulldogs answered back to go up 3-2, but a goal by Murphy, assisted by Schubert knotted the game at 3-3 with 8:32 to play in the 1
st. The Bulldogs closed out the quarter on a 2-0 scoring run to take a 5-3 lead into the 2nd quarter.
Barton continued their scoring run to start off the 2
nd, going up 6-3. The Lions responded well to score the next three goals. Czynski grabbed a goal to make it 6-4, Bulldogs and
Kristie Fisher scored her first of the night with 7:33 to play in the half, assisted by Murphy to cut the Bulldog lead to 6-5. A goal by
Meghan Jennings, assisted by Fisher made it 6-6 midway through the quarter. The Bulldogs responded to take a 7-6 lead, but a goal by Murphy with 3:40 to play tied the game at 7. Barton closed out the half with a goal to take an 8-7 lead into the break.
The Lions opened up the scoring in the 3
rd quarter with Murphy netting her 4
th of the night to tie the game at 8 all. A goal by Czynski, assisted by Murphy with 4:37 to go in the 3
rd gave the Lions a 9-8 lead, but the Bulldogs were quick to score, tying the game at 9. The Lions closed out the quarter strong on a 2-0 scoring run with goals by Czynksi and Murphy in the final minute of play to take an 11-9 lead into the 4
th quarter.
After a lighting delay, the two teams were back in action and Czynski wasted no time adding to the Lions lead with a goal, assisted by Murphy to make it 12-9 Lions. Murphy added her 6
th goal of the night with 12:19 to play to push the Lions lead to 13-9. The Bulldogs answered with a goal to cut the Lions lead to 13-10, but Emmanuel's
Avery Jennings scored with 8:46 to play, assisted by
Mikaela Austin to make it 14-10, Lions. Fisher put the Lions up 15-10 with 6:03 to play. The Lions held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final several minutes to play to earn the 15-10 victory.
