Lions Battle in Tight Contest Against #18 Flagler, 14-8

Box Score Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team hosted #18 Flagler College in non-conference play. The Lions struck first and kept things close with the Flagler Lions, trailing by one, 6-5 at the half. Flager opened things up after the break, pushing their lead to 13-5 after the third period, but Emmanuel closed the fourth period strong to close the gap, making the final score 14-8, Flagler.

Grant Anderson found the net to start things off, assisted by Devin Gardner to give the Lions a 1-0 lead early. Flager responded, scoring the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead with 6:21 to play in the 1st. Ryley Dowswell found the net with 5:51 to play in the period, assisted by Ryland Laturell to cut the Flagler lead to 3-2. Flagler responded to make it 4-2, but another goal from Dowswell made it 4-3, Flagler. The Flagler Lions closed out the period on a 2-0 run to take a 6-3 lead into the 2nd

The second period was a defensive battle, with the Emmanuel Lions scoring the only two goals. Ryland Laturell found the net with 8:39 to play in the 2nd to make it 6-4, Flagler. With 3:33 to play in the period, Dowswell scored his third goal of the afternoon, assisted by AJ Quaid to cut the Flagler lead to 6-5 heading into the halftime break.

Flagler opened things up in the 3rd period, scoring the first 7 goals to push their lead to 13-5. The Emmanuel Lions responded with a goal by Everett Muratori with four seconds to play in the third to make it 13-6, Flagler heading to the 4th.

Flagler scored the first goal of the 4th, taking a 14-6 lead but Emmanuel had an answer. Dowswell netted his fourth goal of the afternoon with 6:44 to play, then Cole Stachniak cut the Flagler lead to 14-8 with 4:54 to go, which would be the final score.

Ryley Dowswell led the Lions with 4 goals on the afternoon, with Ryland Laturell, AJ Quaid and Devin Gardner each grabbing an assist. Nick Pilon ended the day with 16 saves in goal.

Next up, the Lions will travel to Wilson, NC to face Barton College on Friday at 3PM.
