Box Score 2 Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team opened their season today against Clark Atlanta University. The Panthers got off to a quick start, taking an early lead but the Lions chipped away late to make the final score 7-4, Clark Atlanta. In the second game, the Lions jumped ahead early, but the Panther pounced with 6 runs in the 2
nd to take the lead. The Lions made a late run in the sixth, but the Panthers took the win, 9-4. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the season.
GAME ONE
Clark Atlanta got on the board early in the 1
st inning with a run on 2 hits to take a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers pushed their lead to 3-0 in the top of the 2
nd on 2 hits. The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning.
Shelby Rinefierd started things off with a single and
Reagan Beagle doubled to score her, cutting the Panther's lead to 3-1.
The Panthers responded in the top of the 3
rd with 3 runs on 3 hits to make the score 6-1.
After a scoreless at bat for the Panthers in the 4
th, the Lions chipped away at the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Ciara Passmore started things off with a double, scoring on a ground out by
Carson Stowe to make it 6-2, Panthers.
The Panthers tacked on another run in the top of the 5
th on 2 hits to make it 7-2, but the Lions rallied in the bottom half of the inning.
Jacie McCall singled to start off the at bat.
Kelsey Lester walked to advance McCall to 2
nd and
Gillian Price reached on a fielder's choice, with McCall and Dezerea Hillery (pinch runner) scoring on an error by the pitcher to make it 7-4, Panthers.
Both teams threatened to score in the final two innings but a run didn't cross to make the final score, 7-4 Clark Atlanta.
At the plate,
Jacie McCall led the Lions going 2-3.
Grace Ausborn,
Carson Stowe,
Reagan Beagle and
Gillian Price picked up RBI's.
In the circle,
Quinn Overby got the nod, going 3.0 innings. She gave up 6 runs on 8 hits and struck out a batter, walking 3.
Addison Hendrix relieved her, throwing 4.0 innings and giving up 1 run on 6 hits. She walked 2 batters.
GAME TWO
The Lions got on the board first in game two.
Grace Ausborn walked to start things off, and
Arlie Gooden singled to advance Ausborn to 2
nd. Ausborn was caught stealing at 3
rd, but Gooden advanced to 2
nd, scoring on a double from
Ciara Passmore to make it 1-0, Lions early. Passmore advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a double from
Shelby Rinefierd to make it 2-0, Lions.
The Panthers responded quickly in the 2
nd inning, scoring 6 runs on 6 hits to take a 6-2 lead.
After a scoreless 3
rd inning, the Panthers added 2 runs onto their lead in the 4
th on 3 hits to make it 8-2.
Both teams were scoreless in the 5
th inning, but the Panthers tacked on another run in the top of the 6
th to make it 9-2. The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning.
Kaylee Stewart was hit by a pitch to start off the at bat and
Grace Ausborn singled to move Lennox Roberts (pinch-runner) to 2
nd.
Arlie Gooden walked to load the bases and Roberts scored on a passed ball to make it 9-3, Panthers. Passmore walked to keep things going for the Lions and Rinefierd singled to score Ausborn, making the score 9-4, Panthers.
The Lions threatened in the bottom half of the 7
th, but the Panthers took home the win, 9-4.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore went 2-2, with
Grace Ausborn and
Arlie Gooden going 2-3.
In the circle,
Autumn Matherly got the start going 4.0 innings. She gave up 8 runs on 10 hits and struck out 3 batters, walking 2.
Reagan Beagle relieved her to throw 3.0 innings. She gave up 1 run on 3 hits. She struck out 3 batters and walked 1.
The Lions will be back in action on Monday as they host Anderson University for a doubleheader at 1 and 3PM.
