Box Score 3 Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted #14 Francis Marion this weekend in conference action. The two teams battled to start game one, but the Patriots scored 8 unanswered runs to earn the 10-4 win in game one. The second game was a competitive one, with the Patriots edging the Lions 15-9. The third game was all Patriots, with FMU earning the 27-3 victory.
GAME ONE
The Lions jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the 1
st inning on a double by
Aidan Feather to take a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless 2
nd and 3
rd, the Patriots responded in the top of the 4
th, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and an error to take the lead, 2-1.
The Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning. Feather and
Nick Madrigal were both hit by a pitch to put runners at 1
st and 2
nd. A walk to
Noah Gutillo loaded the bases and a single by
Alex Espinoza scored two runs to give the Lions a 3-2 lead. Gutillo scored on an error to give the Lions a 4-2 lead.
The score stayed that way until the top of the 7
th. The Patriots scored 5 runs on 4 hits to take a 7-4 lead. The Lions threatened in the bottom half of the inning, with two base runners getting on board, but a strikeout ended the inning with Francis Marion up 7-4.
The Patriots tacked on 3 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 9
th to make the score 10-4, which would be the final.
At the plate, four Lions collected a hit, with
Alex Espinoza leading the way with 2RBIs.
On the mound,
Hunter Pirkle got the start going 6.0 innings. He gave up 4 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 5.
Luke Hopper relieved him to throw 2.0 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 2 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out 1.
Zach Evans closed out the game on the mound, throwing 1.0 inning. He gave up a run on 2 hits and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO
After a scoreless 1
st inning, the Patriots struck first in game two scoring 5 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 2
nd.
The Patriots added to their lead in the top of the 4
th, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits and an error to take an 8-0 lead. The Lions responded well in the bottom of the 4
th.
Nick Madrigal singled to start things off and
Conor Goltermann singled to advance Madrigal to 2
nd.
Davis Roesler reached on an error, with Madrigal scoring unearned, to make it 8-1, Francis Marion. After
Alex Espinoza was hit by a pitch, a walk to
Haidyn McGill scored Goltermann, making it 8-2. Another hit by pitch, this time to
Chaz Encarnacion scored a run and a walk to Feather scored Espinoza to cut the Patriots lead to 8-4. A wild pitch scored McGill to make it 8-5, Patriots after a wild 4
th inning.
In the top of the 5
th, FMU added 2 runs on 3 hits to take a 10-5 lead.
The Patriots tacked on 2 runs on 2 hits in the top of the 6
th to make it 12-5.
Francis Marion scored 3 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 7
th to go ahead 15-5, but the Lions battled back in the bottom half of the inning. Feather doubled to start off the at-bat. A single from
Parker Westbrook moved Feather to 3
rd and a double from Gutillo down the left field line scored Feather, making the score 15-6.
Reece Kingeter came in as a pinch hitter and hit a grand slam to make the final score 15-9, Francis Marion.
At the plate,
Conor Goltermann was 2-3 and
Haidyn McGill was 2-2.

Ethan Pooler got the start going 3.1 innings. He gave up 8 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 1. Matthew Delarbar relieved him to face 4 batters. He gave up a hit.
Miles Dodd threw 2.0 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, walking 2 batters.
Jacob Bodkin was next on the mound, facing 5 batters. He gave up 3 runs on a hit and walked 2 batters.
Hunter Maddox closed the game for the Lions, facing 2 batters and giving up 2 hits.
GAME THREE
Francis Marion started off strong on game three, scoring 6 runs on 5 hits in the 1
st inning to take a 6-0 lead.
The Patriots added a run on a hit and an error in the top of the 2
nd to make it 7-0. The Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Reece Kingeter doubled to start off the at-bat. A single to center from
Conor Goltermann advanced Kingeter to 3
rd, and
Will Phipps reached on a fielder's choice to score Kingeter, making it 7-1, Patriots.
In the top of the 3
rd, the Patriots scored 3 runs on 3 hits and an error to pull ahead, 10-1. The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 3
rd, with two baserunners getting on board, but a strikeout ended the inning.
The Patriots scored a run in the top of the 4
th to go up 11-1. A double by Gutillo put him in scoring position, but a strikeout ended the at-bat.
In the 5
th, the Patriots scored 12 runs on 11 hits to take a 23-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions got a run back.
Aiden Malish started things off with a double to right center.
Stephen Clark followed that up with a single to short to score Malish, making the score 23-2, Patriots.
The Patriots added 4 runs on 4 hits and an error in the top of the 6
th to take a 27-2 lead. The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 6
th, getting two baserunners on but a strikeout ended the inning.
In the bottom of the 7
th, the Lions scored a run on 3 hits. Encarnacion doubled to start off the inning and
Parker Westbrook doubled to score him, making the score 27-3, Patriots.
The two teams remained scoreless the rest of the way and Francis Marion took the win, 27-3.
At the plate,
Alex Calabro went 2-3 and
Chaz Encarnacion went 2-4.
On the mound,
Brayden Pooler got the start facing 3 batters. He gave up 3 runs on a hit and walked 2 batters.
Logan Taylor was next on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and struck out 3 batters, walking 1.
Joseph Rice relieved him to throw 1.1 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 5 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out a batter.
Zackary Easton was next on the mound, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and walking a batter in less than an inning of work.
Blake Altschuler relieved him to throw 0.2 innings. He gave up 7 runs on 7 hits and walked a batter, striking out one.
Lucas Meehan was next on the mound, throwing 3.1 innings. He gave up 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits. He struck out 4 batters and walked one.
Hunter Maddox closed out the game for the Lions, throwing 1.0 inning and striking out two batters.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Dahlonega, GA to face the University of North Georgia on Tuesday at 4PM.
