NCAA National Championship Preview

CORALVILLE, IA – The Emmanuel Women's Wrestling team is prepared to make some noise on the national stage at the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship which begins tomorrow at the Xtreme Center in Coralville, Iowa. With six Lions qualifying for a shot at the title, lets breakdown the matchups. 

REBEKAH JEAN-BAPTISTE – 103 LB WEIGHT CLASS
The Lions youngest qualifier at 16 years old, Jean-Baptiste punched her ticket to the National Championship with a NCAA Regional Championship decision win over Sloane Kruger of Presbyterian College, 11-4. In session one at Nationals, Jean-Baptiste will face #2 seed, Valarie Solorio of Iowa. Solorio comes into the matchup with a 31-2 record. 

KARISSA TURNWALL -- #2 SEED AT 117 LBS.
Coming into the weekend at an undefeated 23-0, the 2-time All American earned her spot at Nationals with a 6-0 decision win over Jenna Anderson of Presbyterian for the NCAA Regional Championship title. In session one on Friday, Turnwall will face Trinity Howard of West Liberty. Howard comes into the matchup with a record of 16-7. 

JANIDA GARCIA -- #7 SEED AT 131 LBS.  
The sophomore phenom sits at 22-2 on the season coming off a Regional Championship decision win against Kassey Daugherty of Presbyterian 7-0. As the #7 seed at Nationals, Garcia will face the winner of Cassia Zammit (West Liberty) ad Makenzie Childers (Wartburg) in session one. 

ALEXANDRA FORD – 145 LB WEIGHT CLASS 
At Regionals, the freshman finished 3rd, going 4-1 on the weekend with her sole loss to region winner, Madeline Kubicki of Presbyterian. Ford sits at 13-6 on the season and will be tested in session one against #3 seed, Zoey Lints of Elmira College. 

VIDA BECKEL – 160 LB WEIGHT CLASS
Beckel qualified for the National Championship by placing 3rd at Regionals, going 4-1. Her sole loss on the weekend came to May Cuyler from Presbyterian who went onto win the region title. Beckel will have a tough matchup in session one as she is set to face #1 seed and Olympic Silver Medalist, Kennedy Blades. 

GEMMA TEMPLEMAN – 180 LB WEIGHT CLASS
Templeman wrestled well at Regionals to place 3rd and going 5-1 on the weekend. Templeman's sole loss came to Morgan Linton of McDaniel. At Nationals, Templeman will wrestle-in, facing Azariah Moore of Lock Haven University for a spot in session one where she'd face #8 seed, Kara Kuge of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
