LIMA, PERU – Emmanuel Wrestling rising senior,
Karissa Turnwall made waves in her first international competition, earning the gold medal at the U23 Pan American Championship. The international competition was held in Lima Peru on June 12-13. Turnwall competed in the women's freestyle event at 55kg. She finished the tournament with three wins by tech fall and two by points. Turnwall was instrumental in helping Team USA earn the the Women's Freestyle team title.
RESULTS
- In round one, Turnwall faced 2024 U23 Pan Am Championship gold medalist, Yusmy Chaparro Urrego of Colombia. In a tight contest, Turnwall came out on top with a victory by points, 2-1.
- In the second round, Turnwall faced Antuaneth Araceli Casusol Casas of Peru, winning via Tech Fall, 10-0.
- In round three, Turnwall earned a tech fall win over Siria Dayanne Gamboa Rodriguez of Mexico, 11-0.
- Turnwall faced Abby Wolff of Canada, winning by tech fall 10-0 to earn a spot in the finals.
- In the finals, Turnwall had a rematch against Chaparro Urrego, earning a tough victory by points 5-3 to earn the gold medal.
