Fernanda Espinosa Meza is an international student-athlete from Puebla, Mexico.
Fernanda started playing tennis at the age of seven. She had some ups and downs but, she finally fell in love fully with the sport when she was twelve.
“One day I saw one of my friends play and she was doing really well,” explains Fernanda, a member of the EC Women’s Tennis Team. “Since then, I took her as an example because I wanted to be as good as her.”
This ambitious and courageous spirit is what took Fernanda to move to the United States for the first time when she was only sixteen years old. “I was an exchange student for ten months in Tennessee,” explains the young tennis player.
During these ten months, she had to face a lot of challenges such as growing up and maturing far away from her family. However, she got introduced to college tennis and, her coach told her that she could obtain a scholarship to get her degree in the United States.
Right now, she is a Freshman student-athlete pursuing a Business Administration degree at Emmanuel College.
“During my time here at EC, I have met a lot of people who made me feel like I belong,” explains Fernanda. “These people push me to get better on and off the tennis court every day.”
Fernanda still has a lot to live and experience as a college student-athlete; however, she has big plans for her future. “My long-term goal is to open my own Mexican restaurant here in the U.S.,” she explains.
