FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. The Lions Baseball team started Conference Carolinas play this weekend, taking a 0-3 sweep from Belmont Abbey at home.
On Friday, the Lions had six runs on 16 hits for the first game, while the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey had 11 runs on 17 hits.
The game resulted in Mason Tyler's second loss of the season. Caleb Holtzclaw threw 4.2 innings with eightstrikeouts in his first collegiate appearance. Dacen Cash led the Lions offensively with a four hit night.
The Lions started Saturday with eight runs on 11 hits, and allowed the Crusaders 13 runs on 16 hits in the first of the two game set.
Zach Gretsch hit a homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning, driving in three runs. Freshman, Daniel Shealy, led the Lions with three hits. Riley Sparks took the loss for the game.
To finish the series, the Crusaders took down the Lions 22-6. The Lions recorded nine hits and the Crusaders with 22.
Daniel Shealy led the Lions again with two hits and two RBI. Drew Greer homered in the bottom of the ninth for the Lions. Hudson Jacobs got pinned with the loss for game three.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, February 16, atToccoa Falls, first pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
