Box Score Hardeeville, SC: The Lions women's lacrosse team (1-5, 0-3 CC) traveled through Savannah, GA this weekend to face the SCAD Lady Bees (4-0) where they fell short, losing 22-10.
The Lady Lions had a strong start, scoring two quick ones in the first few minutes. Freshman Tara Larson (Loxahatchee, FL) asserted her offensive dominance scoring the first goal, unassisted. Another freshman, Lara Russell (Buford, GA) quickly followed suit with a feed to junior Savannah Gratz (Ball Ground, GA) to score the second goal of the game, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
The Bees stung back with three unanswered goals until junior Haley Larson (Loxahatchee, FL) powered through with a left-handed riser into the top of the net. Gratz took advantage of a free-position shot, evening the score at 4-4 with 13:23 remaining in the first half.
The Lions started the second half down 11-6 and would soon find themselves in bind when starting goalie Inaya Alexander (Atlanta, GA) left the game with concussion-like symptoms. Alexander was efficient in goal, saving 52% of shots on goal prior to her departure. Senior Destinee Johnson (Stockbridge, GA) stepped up to the plate and filled in as goalie for the majority of the second half, impressing onlookers with 5 saves. The Bees surged ahead to score 11 more goals for the win.
Sophomore Allie Brock (Newnan, GA) proved once again her abilities on the circle, nabbing 56% percent of the team's possession of the draw. Junior Megan Hart (Acworth, GA) led the Lions in ground balls grabbing 5 in all, a season high.
The Lady Lions return to action Monday March 2 at 5:30 PM as the North Greenville Crusaders travel to Franklin Springs where both teams will be battling for their first conference win of the season.
