Lions Outroar Bobcats For a Thrilling 14-13 Victory

Box Score

Franklin Springs, GA: The Emmanuel College's Lady Lions (5-7, 2-5 CC) found their second conference win in their inaugural Conference Carolinas season versus the Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats Monday night. The Bobcats are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Junior Megan Hart (Acworth, GA) recorded the first goal of the game just 2 minutes and 15 seconds into the first half. Less-McRae's Peyton LeCompte fired back only seconds later with a goal of her own to even out the score. Emmanuel and Lees-McRae would fight for the lead scoring back and forth for the majority of the half until the last 7 minutes when Emmanuel's offense took control of possession. Junior Savannah Gratz (Ball Ground, GA) netted one to take the lead 8-7 and Junior Lara Russell (Buford, GA) found Sophomore Allie Brock (Newnan, GA) open in the 8-meter to end the half leading 9-7.

The Lions' offense maintained possession of the ball for the first 5 minutes of the second half, with 2 shots made by Gratz and Hart. A free position shot by sophomore Tyler Rediger (Hoschton, GA) gave the Lions the biggest lead of the game with a score of 12-8 with 16:06 remaining. In the next 7 minutes, LMC would go on a 3-0 run, being just one goal shy of a tie. Junior Haley Larson (Loxahatchee, FL) would then cause a turnover in the redefend to score one for the Lions to impart a stronger lead. The Bobcats, however, fired back with a shot by Taylor Drake, but found that the goal would not count as the Lions called for a stick check to discover the pocket was illegal.

Despite the Bobcats' late rally and a tied scored of 13-13 with only minutes left, the Lions offense maintained composure as freshman Tara Larson (Loxahatchee, FL) took it to the net to score the winning goal with only 28.5 seconds remaining. Junior Katie McCall led the Lions defensively, causing 3 turn overs to bring the ball up field.

The Lady Lions will face their last conference opponent of the season, Erskine College, at home on Wednesday April 8 at 4:00 PM.
