ROME, Ga—The Lions took down the Hawks of Shorter University in a double header on Tuesday in State Mutual Stadium. The Lions won both games (4-2, 8-4).
Bo Hardman collected two RBI in the first inning on an error by the center fielder, both Trent Jones and Elliott Beard scored. In the top of the second, Dacen Cash scored on a single by Trent Jones. Hunter Barton scored on a Ty Tipton hit in the top of the seventh. Trent Jones had three hits for the Lions, one being a double, and Ty Tipton had two hits.
Ryan Phillips got the win for the Lions, pitching five innings with three strikeouts. Aaron Westbury pitched two innings with two strikeouts, and got the save.
Shorter scored two runs in the first and third inning, before the Lions were able to rally back with five runs in the fourth inning. Hannon Price scored on a Zach Gretsch fly out. Bo Hardman scored on a Ty Tipton single. Daniel Shealy scored on a Payden Roberts hit, Tipton scored on a Jon Floyd single, and Roberts scored on a passed ball. In the top of the fifth inning, Ty Tipton singled to right field, allowing Shealy to score, and Gretsch scored on an error by the short stop. Bo Hardman singled through the left in the top of the sixth, putting in Trent Jones.
Jones and Shealy both hit doubles for the Lions. Tipton and Roberts both collected two RBI.
Ethan Thornton got the win for the second game, with one strikeout in three and two thirds of an inning.
The Lions travel to USC Aiken today to take on the Pacers. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM.
