Box Score On Tuesday, the Emmanuel College Baseball team took down the Trojans of Anderson University in a 9-5 victory. The Lions came into the game looking for their first win of the season against a very talented team from Anderson that had already beaten them once earlier this month.
The game started off with a 3 run first inning for the Trojans and things were not looking good for the Lions. But in the bottom of the first,
Eric Pape sent a ball deep into the trees behind left center field to make it a 3-2 ballgame. This was his second home run of the year.
The Lions would tie the game up at 3 in the bottom of the third, but only to be put behind again the next half inning. With the Trojans leading 5-3 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Lions put together a huge inning to really get things going. The Lions got
Stephen Skeggs &
Derrick Carswell on base to start off the inning. A throwing error would bring one runner in and a single by Chase Parker would plate another to tie the game. Then
Trent Jones would triple to right field to score both runners to put the Lions up 7-5 and they would not look back from there. Jones would come in to score on a sac-fly by
Brady Burgess, making the score 8-5.
Then, in the top of the fifth, freshman pitcher
Zach Wells would come into the game. Wells would end up going 5.0 innings and allowing no runs on just one hit. This lights-out performance would be enough to win the game for the Lions.
The Emmanuel Baseball team takes the field again on Friday, the 19th at Belmont Abbey in a three-game series to start conference play.
