The Lion's Baseball team took the field this past Wednesday for a game against the Hawks of Shorter University. Shorter took the lead 3-0 in the fourth inning after the Lions had a few chances, but failed to capitalize. The Hawks would then score another in the fifth, raising the lead to four runs.

Emmanuel would strike back in the sixth and seventh, scoring two runs each inning to tie the game up on some good hitting by Brock Baughcum. Shorter would quickly counter though in the eighth and ninth innings, putting up five runs and making the score 9-4. 

But then in the ninth inning, Emmanuel would show some fight by stringing together a few hits and walks. Even more impressive, most of these baserunners would reach base with two outs already in the inning. Baughcum would then come up again and plate a pair of runners, making the score 6-9. After pinch hitter Tim Manning and Jonah Reyes would draw consecutive walks, the bases would be loaded for Trent Jones. Jones would send a double in the gap in left center to bring home two more runs and put the winning run on second base. Brady Burgess came to the box next and drew another walk to load the bases and send Eric Pape to hit. Pape, who had already led off the inning with a single, would come up huge for the Lions with a two strike base hit into center field. This base hit would score both pinch runner Derrick Carswell and Trent Jones, winning the game for Emmanuel in walk-off fashion by a score of 10-9. 

This comeback of six runs in the bottom of the ninth is one of the best comebacks in the history of the baseball program. 

After this big win, the Lions will take on Southern Wesleyan University this weekend in a three game Conference Carolinas match-up.
