Box Score This past weekend, the Emmanuel College baseball team took the field against the Warriors from Southern Wesleyan University.
The first game was consisted of a series of unfortunate events that resulted in the lions dropping a game that was within grasp. Highlights of the game included a great offensive day from freshman Stephen Skeggs. He was 2 for 3 with a homerun (2) and 3 RBIs. Senior pitcher Ethan Thornton also threw 3.1 innings, allowing just one earned run.
Game two was a pitcher's duel for the most part, but SWU's staff couldn't compete with Cooper Murphy of the Lions, who would have a stellar outing. The sophomore went the complete 7 innings, allowing no runs on just three hits. The phenomenal performance would earn him his second win of the year. Murphy finished the game in just 81 pitches. The Lions would win this one by a score of 3-0.
The final game of the series would be a dramatic one. The Lions would battle back from an early two run deficit thanks to some clutch hitting from Brady Burgess and Eric Pape. As the game went on, quality pitching from Bryson Cornett and Alex Jordan kept the game close. The competition continued to go back and forth until the bottom of the 9th inning, with both teams tied at 4. Then, in this last inning, Chaise Parker would reach second on a clutch double to put the game winning run into scoring position. Just one batter later, his roommate Jonah Reyes shot a line drive into right field, plating the walk-off run to the plate and giving Emmanuel the victory 5-4.
The Lions look to take on the Limestone College Saints this weekend in their final Conference Carolinas series of the season.
