Baseball Takes 1 from Limestone

Box Score

The Limestone College Saints came to Franklin Springs this past weekend for a three game series against the Lions Baseball team.

In games one and two, the Lions fell both times. Game one was an offensive outburst by the Saints that the Lions couldn't contain. They would fall to Limestone 16-2 in this matchup. Game two saw the Lions just barely fall in the last inning by a score of 5-4.

Game three, however, would go in the Lions favor. The Lions took an early lead as Jonah Reyes would take home on a throw to second. This lead would only last until the fourth inning though, when the Saints would put together a few hits to score four runs. Emmanuel refused to give in though, as they answered and continued to battle back. Scoring in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, the Lions would make the score 5-5. As the game went on, Ethan Thornton would come in and do well, allowing no earned runs over 2.1 innings. The Saints and Lions would each score one more as the game went on, leaving it all tied up going into the ninth. Colton Bridges would come in to relieve Thornton with runners on first and second with one away, and would do exactly what he was supposed to as he got a double play grounder in just two pitches. The Lions would carry this momentum into the bottom half of the inning where Brady Burgess would reach base on an errant throw. Brandon Bostick then entered the game to run, stealing second base. This would bring Stephen Skeggs to the plate, who would then double to the right-center field gap, scoring Bostick and winning the game for Emmanuel.

This was the last regular season home series for the Lions. They will head to play North Georgia this weekend for the final games before the NCCAA regional tournament. The tournament will be held here at Emmanuel College and will be May 11th-13th.
