Lions Fall to Dominant Belmont Abbey Team

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Women's Lacrosse team took on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders from Belmont, Nc. At home on April 10th.

Belmont Abbey took the first draw control of the game and went on to score the first goal of the game. The crusaders then went on to score 5 more until Hanna Hernandez scored the first goal of the game for the lions.

After Emmanuel's Aleah Marijanich caused a turnover and got a ground ball, she found Tara Larson in front of the net and assisted the second goal of the game for the lions.

Belmont Abbey scored four more and then the Lion's Megan Shortt and Tara Larson scored one a piece. The scoring went back and forth some more ending the first half with a score of 13-5, Belmont Abbey.

The second half began with a goal from Belmont Abbey but was quickly answered by Megan Shortt. Then the crusaders scored another and was again answered by Lara Russell.

Belmont Abbey went on a four-goal run until Emmanuel's Tara Larson scored another and stopped their streak. Aleah Marijanich and Megan Shortt each scored one more giving Emmanuel a three-goal run.

Belmont Abbey only scored one more in the half and the lions went on to score two more, but the lions fell short to the crusaders with a final score of 20-12.

The Lady Lions ended the game with 18 ground balls, 20 turnovers, 23 attempted shots and 10 draw controls. Goalie Tiana Machado played an incredible game with 12 saves.

The Lady Lions will travel to Lees McRae in Banner Elk, NC for their next game on April 17th.
