HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crusaders got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning after Mason Dodd singled then advanced to second on the throw. Ben Gobbel followed up with a single to right field to bring Dodd home and give BAC a 1-0 lead. After a slow start, the Lions would finally respond in the 8th inning. Luke Patty drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and stole third with 2 outs in the inning. Kyle Gaura was then walked before Brandon Taylor stepped in as the pinch runner. Taylor would steal second before Quinn Tomasino walked to load the bases for EC. Brody Campbell stepped up to the plate and hammered a much needed double into left field, bringing in both Patty and Taylor. EC now led 2-1. The Lions would further extend their lead in the top of the 9th when Jorge Villalabos had an unearned run off of a throwing error. Despite a 3-1 lead, the Lions were unable to close out the game as Belmont Abbey responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie up the game. In the top of the 10th, EC started off with Brandon Taylor advancing to first on a fielding error. Taylor would advance to second thanks to a sac bunt from Tomasino. One final double to right center from McClure would bring in Taylor and put EC ahead 4-3. Tyler Mayfield would secure the win for EC with 3 strikeouts in the final inning.
